Substitute For Protein Shakes

Recommended Posts

I am 4 days post op, i have tried 4 different whey shakes in the last 2 days. I can not stomach any of them. Is there another good substitute that can get in 20+ grams in quickly?

My doc told me to worry about liquids than Protein that early. I am 4 weeks and still don't like the Protein Drinks. Once you get a little ways down the road if you like shrimp I bought a bag of cooked at Walmart. It has 42 grams of protein for 6 oz. I wasn't a big shrimp eater before but it sure beats Protein Shakes. Good luck!

I love, love, love the Premier shakes (30 grams). I hear the Ensure are good, but my NUT advised me to avoid them due to high sugar content.

Good luck!!

Have you tried Isopure non dairy drinks, nectar Protein or Unjury unflavored powder. I bought them all pre op and they aren't bad. I am sipping on isopure right now for my liquid diet.< /p>

I'm not sure what you can have in your post-op shake. Im pre-op and didnt like the taste, so i jazzed it up a bit. ..8 oz skim milk, 1 scoop EAS vanilla soy Protein mix, 1tbsp sugar free Hills Bros cappuccino-french vanilla, 1tble organic sugar free Peanut Butter and 1/4 banana, oh and a tblsp of milled flax...Low in calories and sugars and taste sooo good. Ive lost 9lbs in 7 days..Blend and enjoy!

You need to watch the soy Protein. It isn't a good form of protein, its full of fillers. After surgery we need to concentrate on WHEY protein, that's the purest form. My doc says its Better than nothing but not to depend on it.

Interesting. My dietitian said that whey or soy isolate are the best. It's interesting the differences between different surgeons & dietitians.

I'm currently trying hemp protien. It's the only plant protien that I have found that has all the amino acids your body needs. Most health food stores carry it. You do have to check the label and make sure you are getting 50%+ protien. It honestly doesn't taste as good as the shakes(it doesn't taste bad either), but it is the most complete non dairy protien I've found.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
