Guess we will pass in the hall of either the hotel or hospital. Have you joined the July sleeves yet? There is a good FB sight you can join also. The FB ite is private. No one but sleeves can see it.

I will be heading there in August...but cool Beans, I would love to hear as much as possible before I go there. I don't know if I would join a FB group, but I love floating around here and learning from actual patients =) I keep thinking that this whole thing is surreal lol. Did you find a new general doctor? I have to wait to book my follow up as he isn't booking September yet. It's all falling into place. I am more nervous about going through Homeland Security lol. My hubby has a d.u.i. from 1980 something and a dangerous driving conviction. He is harmless and older now...but I am freaked out all the same.

I am booked on 08/27 with Dr. Lopez. Thank you so much for sharing! To be honest' date=' I am in the same nervous boat as I can't find much info online. My doctor is the one who is sending me to Mexico lol...funny how some are for it, and some are so opposed. Miss, has your incision healed? When you say popping open....ummm...how open??[/quote']

My incisions have gotten a lot better but are not completely healed. I take forever to heal anything. One of my incisions is an inch circle. I thought it was going to heal as an open hole but it looks like its filling in. Another one was only kind of open and is now healing shut.

Dr Lopez was good though, I'd recommend him.

I'm booked with Dr. Lopez for August 27th as well! This all still feels unreal that it's happening so fast. I applied to medicard after finding "A Lighter Me.com" and heard back within 24 hours. I don't know why but I was picturing early spring for my date. I'm so glad I found this thread and heard some feedback on experiences with our surgeon. I'm nervous about traveling out of country alone but determined to make a change.

My husband was supposed to come with me and we were going to go to Guadalajara to have it done with Dr. Lopez-Ortega. He's since decided he can't come and so I moved the surgery up to another date they had offered and switched to Tijuana. The date is sooner and the trip is cheaper.

Did you receive your post op diet from Janese yet? I just received mine today. My husband is freaking out about going lol. So who knows, I might be by myself too ;) . Have you joined the August Sleeve group yet? It's really great, a lot of fabulous ladies. A couple of gents as well. Everyone is so in tune with being focused and trying to not be freaked out by the actual surgeries that are fast approaching. Our journey is really beginning to take shape :) Feel free to inbox me, ttyl.

I haven't recieved my package of info and diet yet. It should come this next week. I'm trying not to obsess about the trip. It's hard to do since it's less than 6 weeks away. I've got my time at work booked off and my daughters are taken care of with hubby staying home so now what...?

You all will enjoy your experience, I'm sure. I brought my wife with me but didn't have a surgery pal in terms of someone else going through it with me. I had no friends or aquaintances that had done this. But it was a blessing to bring my wife. Your spouses will have a wonderful time. The food in the hotel is delicious from what I understand and really inexpensive. I was not interested in eating, obviously, so I couldn't tell you first hand out it tastes. :)

They brought us over in a group for the surgery the day that I had it. I made quick friends with the other folks going through it and have kept in touch since. We text each other to see if anyone else is having issues and it has been very nice and comforting when I have bad weeks (which I'm going on 3 weeks of stalling...bleh) to hear that others are doing the same thing.

For those of you worrying about pain, I had virtually none. My wounds dehis'd as well - but the other people I had surgery with did not experience that. They closed up nicely on their own, but did have a little bacterial infection. I blame myself and not the surgeon for them opening because I was so nervous to change them that I left them alone for too long at times. I work in healthcare, so I know better which is why I'm a terrible patient. :)

Feel free to inbox me if you have any questions. I try to get on here every few days and see what everyone is up to. I currently have another post going in a different forum looking for help with my three week stall. :)

Good luck all, you won't regret doing the surgery. You'll just miss eating and that's something we can learn to live with.

I bought my tickets yesterday! Wow, it's too late to turn back now. This is going to be so much better sharing the experience. I was really down when my husband said he couldn't come.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
