Hey all! I'm still pre op, but after doing a ton of research I know carbs are a big no no post op. I've read things such as bread, Pasta, rice etc aren't well tolerated after surgery. I can give up bread and rice, but I'm freaking out about Pasta. I'm Italian, I can't help it lol. I probably make pasta in some way shape or form at least 2-3 times a week. I could REALLY use some pasta-ish ideas for post op (down the line of course) that I could use that would make me feel less like I'm giving it up completly.

I've thought of things like spagetti squash, I've seen the tofu noodles (not sure of the name?) and I saw on the Eggface blog about zuccini pasta. Anyone tried any of these things? Any specific recipies for them?

Hungrygirl.com has a lot of great swaps of all kinds. You may like to check that out. She does use the Shirataki tofu noodles. I have a hard time finding them in my area though, so good luck!

Sleeve of Steel,

I can also eat anything. I've not found anything that doesn't agree with me, which worries me, but you've got it right...small amounts. Anything in MODERATION! I would still try and get the tofu noodles simply for the extra Protein they pack.

Thanks guys! I have to look for the tofu noodles! I remember seeing them on Hungry Girl before (Love her!) and I had never heard of them so I'll have to look around- maybe Whole Foods?

Sleeve of steel- LOL love the name! I hope I'm able to still tolerate Pasta eventually. Just to be able to have it once in a while- being Italian I'm pretty much 75% made up of Pasta LOL.

Whole Foods would be the perfect place to get them, in fact I believe that is where the Hungry Girl website instructs you to find them. I don't have a Whole Foods near me, although I wish I did.

Thanks Carol! I'll definitly look there! I love Whole Foods, we have a bunch here in NYC (though their prices can be high on certian things) but they have great stuff. My ex was a health food nut so he got me into them. You might be able to find the noodles online too! :)

If you're in Texas HEB sells them and also any japasanese/ Asian market does also. shiritaki come in many forms. But I'm wondering, yeah they're no carbs and hardly any calories. But can that stall weight loss?

I would think it would be okay as long as your not eating too much of it, more of a filler but still getting in your Protein, keeping it low carb etc, Since the noodles really don't have any nutrional value in the way of protein or anything probably wouldn't want to eat them all the time either.

My personal take on this is...... I'll simply eat the real stuff a lot less often, in a lot smaller quantity, then put in some extra excersise to burn it off. Moderation is the key

Use wonton wrappers instead of noodles for lasagna. Look at emilybites.com for ideas for her "cupcakes".

I currently (preop) use wonton wrappers to make cheater raviolis. They're pretty delish. I need to look at the package though, and check out the nutritional info.

I've tried spaghetti squash twice. Once made by someone else and once by me. The time I had it prepared by someone else it was the best thing I've ever eaten. When I tried, I wasn't really very good. I missed something. I'll be trying again though. I have had the tofu noodles, and I loved those. I found the at HEB, but I also saw that you can order them online from Amazon. I love Amazon.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
