Man Lost 400Lbs, Regained 250Lbs.

Recommended Posts

Just read this story. It really struck home for me. I regained the weight I lost for my 6 mo Md supervised diet. I'm trying to get back on the wagon. A lot of thinpeople ask me why i want this operation even tho im so "good" at dieting or why bigger people cant just eat healthy & exercise. Healthy eating habits, exercise, & Portion Control, even vanity about one's own appearance, are not instilled in everyone. For a lot of us, healthy behaviors are hard to learn. I wish that people would recognize food addiction more. Its not like quitting smoking or drinking,I cant quit eating, i have to eat to live. Part of the reason for having the vsg is that it can aid in preventing weight regain by creating biological feedback for portion control. I think almost all of us have lost weight only to regain it. I hope this guy loses his weight & recovers emotionally.

It's a medical fact that people who are overweight have a harder time, not ONLY because of addiction to food issues, losing weight and keeping it off. A person who was overweight or obese that loses weight to be a healthy weight compared to someone who has always been around a healthy weight has twice as much trouble to maintain that healthy weight. It's something that people don't actually believe unless you've been through it because it just seems strange to think about. But it is very true.

This was heart breaking. Left me in tears. I really feel for him, A few years ago I dropped a lot of weight via Weight Watchers and I felt amazing....putting it back on (and then some) was so tough emotionally and physically. You feel like a failure. I can't imagine dropping that amount of weight only to regain. I wish him a lot of luck! That is exactly why i need the VSG too- loosing the weight is doable, but regaining is so easy, I need the help of surgery to keep it off.

I did that program back when I was in high school actually. It didn't work too well for me because I was in school at the time and it was tough to eat like the program required. I often wonder how many people on these infomercials KEEP the weight off! It must be terrible to be reminded of it :( Its really easy to gain weight back after diet programs like this. I did weight watchers a few years ago, lost about 80lbs and gained it all back too. That's why with the sleeve it's a permenant tool that will help us not to slip back to over eating and making the choices that we did pre surgery.

i agree. being able to eat just a little at a time would be good and should be easy to keep it off

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
