What Was It Like While You Were Under?

Recommended Posts

I believe with general anesthesia, they give you something to help reverse the affect, and that's how you wake up..

I was lying on the stretcher after having my iv put in and started wondering when they were gonna come in the room & get my stuff going for anesthesia & literally the next thing I knew, I was waking up in my bed, post-op....it was just that easy....

They give you Versaid to put you under, makes you not remember a thing and they use a drug to bring you out of the anesthesia. I ask my doctor to bring me out asap since I have the same fear of not waking up. I am a basket case everytime I have had to be under and its been a life long fear.

Wake up in your room, have conversations you don't remember, talk on the phone and not remember, its all good. lol

My husband and I attended a one day education class as part of the requirements for my surgery. I got to meet the entire team from the nurses to the anesthesiologist to the physical therapist. It helped to relax and inform me and, as someone previously mentioned about their team, my team had an amazing sense of humor. Things moved fast -- I went to sleep and I woke up easily but didn't dream or have any memories of being under anesthesia. I have had absolutely no regrets about the entire process except for the fleeting thought when I woke from surgery was, "What the hell did I just do?" Again, it was fleeting and I was fortunate not to have much pain throughout the recovery process. I did a lot of research on the hospital and surgical team prior to making my decision so felt comfortable with their competence.

Nothing. funny but you're traying to stay a wake and less then 2min you are out. When is over you just hear people calling out you name and telling you to wake up that is over. Only in one of my surgery i felt when they took out the tube out of my mounth. I had many surgery in past. So don't worried cz you won't feel a thing

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
