Gas pain, pressure, not able to drink much

Recommended Posts

I'm 6 days out. I thought this was normal but I just saw my lap band aftercare lady and she indicated I should be able to drink more than I have been able to ...Help cause now I'm worried and don't want to be.

Anyone else had gas pain and nasua ( I can't spell that) even with Water after surgery?? I can't only drink a little bit, like maybe 3 ounces every 20-30 mins then I feel like shit for several hours after....

Advice, experience, suggestions?

How does warm liquids feel afterwards? Often they're more soothing.Sounds like you are still swollen and this should resolve itself over time. But, yes, you need to keep yourself hydrated as much as you can.

My surgeon told me that my biggest goal for the 3 weeks after surgery was to not get nauseus (sp?) and vomit. Has your doc given you anything for nasuea? I got phenegran suppositories but was lucky enough to not have an upset tummy. Once you get your nausua under control you should be able to drink what you are "supposed" to. Call your doc!

Good luck.

Peace.

I just emailed the dr. and will wait to see what he says...Warm feels good, but still doesn't help me get more down. I haven't vomited at all.

I am also 6 days post op. I have been having a lot of pain and cannot take in anything but Water. My surgeon says that my stomach is swollen and that my band is too tight. He told me that by the 7th day, I should feel a lot better. The fat around the stomach should give way and make more room, the band at this point should become looser. Everyday I see some improvement. Today is the first day I don't take pain medication. Things are looking better. The upside of this is I am losing weight quickly.

Hope you are feeling better soon:sick

I'm six days out, too and do have a bit of gas...but nothing debilitating like what you're describing. The nausea should be able to be controlled by meds. Call your primary care physical, tell him what's going on and he'll prescribe something for that.

As for the gas, here's what helped me:

1. Walk around - walk down the street, to your mailbox, around your living room. Put your arms up in the air, swing them around.

2. Kneel on the bed with your forehead down (nice way of saying butt up) for a few minutes

3. Walk around again.

This should produce either a belch or a burp or, if you're lucky, both. It sounds like you've got quite a nasty case. Is it up in your shoulder? That's where it hit me the worst.

If it's any help, I've been assured by everyone here that it will pass (no pun intended, heh heh).

Good luck.

Hi guys,

I'm almost 2 weeks out, and I feel better now, but I did experience the same thing you all are. Almost worse than not being able to take in much of anything was the fear about it. My friend/boss had her surgery a month before, and she healed so quickly! But 2 weeks out I'm just now able to get enough liquid in.

My advice for you is to take it easy, be gentle, and sip Water. Don't push yourself, because the pain/pressure from taking in too much too soon isn't worth it. Keep track of how many ounces you can get in during the day, and let your doc know. If they're concerned, they can give you a prescription for something to help the swelling.

No worries, sweetpeas. Sip, sip, sip and good luck! It only gets better from here!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
