Have I Messed Up Too Bad?

My pre-op diet is two shakes, and a 300 calories dinner for a week, then all shakes for a week. I am on day 5 of the first week, and I kind of over ate at dinner. It was healthy; pork tenderloin chops, boiled squash, and sauteed mushrooms. I just had a bit too much because it was so good. No sweets or major carbs (aka bread), but too big of portions. Have I screwed everything up?

That one slip up will not set you back. My pre-op diet was 5 Protein Shakes and a meal of 5 oz of lean meat and 2 cups of veggies. I ended up doing it for almost 4 weeks, with a few little mis-haps and my doc said my liver looked great. Don't beat yourself up, just be more careful in the future.

I have heard of people not even following their pre-op diet at all and being cleared for surgery, not that I would EVER recommend anyone doing that! So I am going to say you are probably fine. The diets vary so much and the whole point is to shrink the liver which can be achieved by reducing calorie intake and carb intake. I am sure you will be fine! Don't worry too much and focus on the future and following it from now on! :)

Nope, you haven't messed up so badly that your surgery won't happen. You do, however, need to stick as closely to your doctor's guidelines as possible from here on out. The pre-op diet is supposedly to shrink your liver, but I suspect it's also to see if you can comply with the dietary restrictions given AND to help you detox from caffeine and sugars. The early post-op process is tough enough without having both of those addictions to break as well.

Pre op sucks; in fact it was the hardest part of the journey for me. I was ready to back out of the surgery because I was convinced that surgery=hunger. For me, post op was much easier. No, you didn't screw up beyond repair. Just hang in there and try to follow your dr's plan. I promise it will be worth all of your hard work! It is much easier on the other side!

Good luck to you. I think if you stick to it strict now you should be fine.

I'm starting to get a little nervous about my start of the pre-op shakes. Monday starts my 14 days of 3 shakes, sugar-free jello/sugar-free popsicles (both have aspartame which cause me headaches) and decaff tea & crystal light. I was provided 42 individual packed shake mixes. I was advised very strongly by surgeon & preop nurse to follow it to the T.

I have lost 60 already pre-op since November, but today my son and husband treated me to a nice dinner. It was my last hurrah before Monday. I had a Protein shake for Breakfast, a little bit of Isopure to taste for lunch, I exercised about 45 minutes and tonight we went out to House of Kobe a Japanese Steak Hibachi house and I had a little fried rice for the first time, steak and even a little peppermint ice cream. I feel a bit stuffed though I only ate about 10% of my rice and just a little ice cream. I'm going to try to get more cardio in tonight and tomorrow I'm going to eat light so Monday isn't so brutal on me. I pray the next 14 days go quick.

Luwanna, Post-op isn't "awful". I think a lot of it is your mind-set. I was not expecting pain or for the diet to be terribly difficult, and I didn't have pain or a terribly difficult post-op. In my head, I knew that the post-op diet was set that way for a reason and that my sleeve needed to heal. I didn't want complications, so I stuck to it religiously. My pain was less than either of my c-sections and BONUS I didn't have a newborn to care for at the same time! LOL

It's an adjustment to deal with the discomfort of surgery, and to make sure you get in your liquids and Proteins, especially while your sleeve is still swollen. For me, it was also an adjustment to get used to walking because I almost couldn't walk pre-op. But, it was ALL worth it to be down 100 pounds at 8.5 months later. I know I'll reach my goal, but even if I don't, I feel like a brand new person now!!! :)

My sister started her preop diet today. Its all liquid for two weeks, surgery June 1. She can have cream Soup for dinner but otherwise just shakes, crystal lite, sugar free popsicles, sugar free Jello, etc. She also quit smoking today! She made it through day one, no issues. I am so proud of her! I know that it is super difficult but she can do it and I believe in her!

I didn't even have a pre-op diet. They told me to cut my carbs in half, and eat very slowly, which I did, but that's it.

I'm not having a hard time with the liquids. I do find myself getting a little more anxious to try food, and see how my stomach handles it. I have 2 more days of Clear Liquids.

I totally agree this pre op diet is difficult. I have had some minor slips but I am pushing through. I just can't shake this terrible headache that I have had for a few days. I assume that my body is detoxing from the "bad" things. I hope that everything turns out ok. My surgery is Friday the 25th.

I didn't have a pre-op diet, and I really feel for all of you who do. I completely understand why they do it, though - it was honestly a big shock for me to go from 60 to 0 in literally 2 days' time.

I caved midway through pre-op and ate my entire kitchen. I started fresh the next day and everything was fine. My doctor never even asked me if I'd followed the pre-op diet! I coulda slacked the whole time and wouldn't have even had to fess up about it. If it was that important, you'd think he would've made sure I'd followed the plan.

      I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

      Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
      Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
