Today Was My One Week Post Op Appt!

Recommended Posts

Hi !!! It's me again Marina. I was sleeved on May 10th! Today was my 1 week post op appt!!! There's good news and then there's some bad news :( I'll just go ahead and come out with bad news! I was honest with my doctor and told him that i wasnt getting enough liquids in. It's hard and i try so hard the most i can get is 20-30 oz.. I told him that i've been feeling dizzy and that my tongue feels like there is fur growing on it. He was ready to admit to the ER but i begged him not too and to wait till monday so that i can try even better to get the fluids in. He told me i have to do 64 oz to catch up and i have to call back on Monday. I agreed. I'm trying really really hard. The problem is that i can not stand to drink anyting sweet anymore, mixed drinks or nothing.. only Water and unsweetened tea. I have to get through this challenge!! Now that thats out the way!! I've lost 13 pounds 1 week post op!!!! :D Making it a total of 40 pounds total since i've began my journey in November. My doctor said that i've lost 25% of my body fat already!!!!! I'm so excited ....

Congratulations Marina!! I'm so happy for you! I wonder too how I'm going to get in all that liquid. I mean how do you do it?? 64 oz a day?!?! I don't do that now. I'm worried cause my surgery is Monday and I have no idea how I'm going to do it. On the up side, my daughter is in Nursing school working on her BSN. So she will be taking care of me next week! :D

I have the same issue with the fluids. My doctor reminds me to count the Jello an Popsicles as well. I'm having issues with plain Water, can't Stan the taste so I'm making myself use crystal light which I didn't have to use before. The sipping drives me crazy because it takes me forever to get through a bottle of water.

This may be a strange question, but have you always had a problem with plain water or did that only start after surgery? I LOVE water, it's pretty much all I drink as I'm not much of a fan of flavored beverages. Just curious, I can't imagine not being able to drink water after surgery!

Before surgery I had no problem with plain water. The nurse said its something that cause the taste of things to change. I also think its the sipping of water since it tastes so funny. I started back buying bottled water and it tastes funny too. I'm not a fan of flavored beverages either but they are easier for me to sip.

What about chicken stock. I drink low sodium chicken stock & that is pretty good.

Oh & I was sleeved the same day as you! My Dr allowed me to drink gatorade, said he wanted me to have at least 1 1/2 cups of that a day. So mostly been drinking that, some crystal light, and the chicken stock. I am probably around 50oz, but know I am not at 64oz yet. It is hard to get all the liquids in.

Oh & now I am allowed milk, so made myself a banana milk with sugar free Da Vinci Syrup. It is made with splenda & has zero calories & zero carbs, zero everything actually. Had that yesterday for the first time & it was so good.

It takes me all day of sipping, but I get all my fluids & Protein in. I'm still on Clear Liquids for another week, so I mix Beneprotein packets with broth & crystal light. I also got some more of the Isopure liquid to mix in with crystal light. I don't like the aftertaste of the Isopure, but I can tolerate it, so I deal with it to get all my protein in. It does take me all day though!

I buy one of the liter Water bottles from Sunflower Market , it's 50 oz, and I drink from it all day. As long as I finish that I know I have made my 60 goal because I drink broth all day too- I might actually be waterlogged lol

Have you guys tried the camelback Water bottles? Make a huge difference. You have to bite the valve to get the liquid out so it's not like using a straw! I was sleeved may10 as well! Post op was yesterday I'm averaging a pound a day!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
