Last week I bumped back up to 212.
Today I was 209.6
Start of challenge 220
Challenge goal is 205
So I've gotta stay focused on the goal. 4.4 lbs in 6 days!

Mela got a reaction from CVWillis in July 4Th ChallengeChecking in!!!
Goal for July 4th is 25 pounds
Progress: As of 6/7/12: down 5 pounds. Walking and jogging for one hour 3x this week. Strength training for one hour 2x this week.
Exercising is helping so much. I'm losing more inches than pounds.
One more goal for July 4th is to run the entire track for half mile. Lets see what happens!!

Mela reacted to Webchickadee in So Annoyed...So sorry you had that experience! 4 more weeks of liquids would drive me insane. But think of how much weight you'll lose (....looking for the upside here....).
As to being a cheap date...I told my husband I'm the cheapest date ever now. He doesn't have to buy me a drink (I'd get bombed on 1/2 an alcoholic drink now, I'm sure). And if I was REALLY hungry, he could take me to costco on "sample" day. It would be like a buffet, and I'd be full after about 3 tasting stations!
LOL. Cheapest date EVER.

Mela reacted to former_vbg in July 4Th ChallengeSure, I'm 5'3". I'm doing the no carb thing right now and hitting the exercise EXTRA hard to zero in on the final goal. I want to see that 120# so bad I can just taste it!!

Mela got a reaction from dsleon in 3.5 Weeks Out And Still Having Pain........ :0/Im 5 weeks out and I have the same issue from time to time. Mine still bleed on occasion because my stitch came apart. My doc looked at it and said it was fine. Just have your doc take a look at it. As a side note, I think I started back exercising way too soon do its my fault the stitch bust!!

Mela reacted to M2G in UHC BMI REQUIREMENTS KEEP CHANGING!Here is a portion of my other post just in case you don't see it addressing what the requirements were for ME and MY PLAN!
Also our plan stipulated that it was BMI of 35-39.9 with at least ONE co-morbidity (and it actually spelled out which ones would qualify as a co-morb) OR a BMI of 40.0+ or greater, no co-morb needed. I fell into the 40+ category and my husband did too (just barely) but he also had a covered co-morb so he would have been approved even if his BMI had slipped below 40, whereas my BMI HAD to stay above 40+ the entire duration of the 6 months of check-ins. My UHC nurse case manager made sure to spell that out for me that I could NOT slip below 40...I appreciated her honesty. It is ALSO part of the reason that I did not do any type of pre-op diet, of course I could have lost a few lbs since my BMI 4 points above the danger line, but I wasn't planning on risking denial over my BMI!!!
_________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
BMI of 40 would qualify if medically necessary.
The last part probably all you need is a letter from your PCP stating that they THINK surgery is medically necessary...I had to get that from my PCP who was a willing partner in helping me get surgery...thank goodness!!

Mela reacted to jhansen71 in July 4Th ChallengeOkay so I have done something crazy... I added up the total number of people participating in this challenge. There are 46 people in this challenge. We set some big goals of 678.9 lbs lost by July 4th. So far we have lost 120.8 lbs, but this only includes 18 people who have weighed in so far. So we have 3 weeks left and many more people to weigh in at some point by July 4th. We might actually make it considering close to a 3rd of us weighed in at only 2 weeks into the challenge and lost a whopping 120.8 lbs! We have 3 weeks left July 4th losers. Let's meet this goal of 678.9. We can do it!!!

Mela reacted to babygirl_sandy in Who To Tell And Not Tell....I've decided to tell my kids and boyfriend first and they are very supportive, then I told my sister and best friend over drinks and they are completely supportive to the point, that they both said "we are all overweight if it works for you then we might jump onboard!! ".. But then I told my mom and there came the negative comments and asking why.. I just told her that I wasn't telling her for her negativity, I was just informing her of my decision cause at the end of the day its your life, health and body no one else.. so after that experience I decided to not to tell anyone else.. Its on a need to know bases and they don't need to know!!

Mela reacted to danyelleb in 27Ibs Loss After 4 Whole Months...feeling Horrible!Yes, I was told specifically to stay away from those two things. I was told that the carbonation would stretch out my tummy. As for gum, I was told to stay away because it causes gas. For what it's worth tho- I was also told to stay away from straws too. I can drink from a straw with no gas pains. Gum on the other hand causes discomfort. As for carbonation- I stay away from it.

Mela reacted to carlab51 in Liquid Diet DeathI look at it this way. If I lose this weight I increase my chances of being around to enjoy my forgetfulness and all the other things that come with old age. I will take it and be glad!

I just wanted to say... I am soooo happy with my decision to get this surgery... as of yesterday I am 166.6 from a starting weight of 238.1 the day of surgery! that is 72 lbs forever gone!!!
I don't know how decided to get on this path but i know that I am glad that I embarked on this journey! I am hoping that i can be at goal by either june or july, but its not really a race and i really dont care, but i just wanted to set another goal for myself.
I am still running 3 times a week, unfortunately i have kind of slacked on my circuit training to only 2 times a week, so i really need to step that up.. thankfully i only have minimal loose skin on my tummy and unfortunately my butt deflated a little..lol, but i figure with enough exercise i can bulk my butt back up and i may have to go in for some plastics for my tummy, but ill weight till after i decide to have a kid to do that.
ok so now that i got my happiness out of the way.. i actually have a question.
I know that the doc say we should wait at least a yr to get prego, but really shoot for 2 yrs post op, and im wondering if that is because most of the time people haven't hit their goal weight this early on.. or is it because our bodies are still adjusting to the surgery... Im asking because I wonder if i hit goal within the next few months.. will it be ok to start trying? my reason for asking isn't really that i want to get prego right away, its more out of curiosity just in case. cuz i may need to rethink my birth control..lol... i for the life of me can't remember to take that damn pill.
anyways here are some before and almost after pics..lol

Mela reacted to Katie713 in In Hella...Just pour over the posts on this forum, there is so much information you can learn from. Or purchase one of the books on Sleeve Gastrectomy, perhaps on amazon.
There are several things that should be at the top of your list:
Get at least 64 oz of fluids in daily - this can be Water, sugar free drinks, etc.
Do not drink with your meals (stop at least 30 min before and up to an hour after)
Get at least 70-90 grams of Protein per day (protein from meats/dairy/beans/eggs/fish)
(Supplement your protein levels with Protein shakes if you need to)
With each meal, focus on protein first 60%, then veggies 30%, then carbs 10% (whole grains)
Get some exercise everyday - at least 30 minutes, more when you can
Track your fluids, protein, and calories - you should be getting 800-1200 calories (for your height/weight)
(I use myfitnesspal.com to keep my food journal up to date but you can use a notebook)
You need Vitamins, a good multi-Vitamin, Vitamin D3 1000 mg., and take B12 - 1000 mg sublingual 3 times a week, and thiamine 50 mg - or a good B complex, and Calcium Citrate during the day (3-4 times)
You can do this. Reach out, research on your own, take this tool and make the best of it and you will be healthier and look better. We are all here because we had our own food addictions. We are not here to judge, but to help!!!

Mela reacted to MGM in In Hella...I am so sorry you are feeling like this. I haven't been sleeved yet. I have 3 months to wait. I'm the black sheep of the inlaw family, so I know what that feels like. But, I know how it is to cry because of your self esteem. I know what it's like to not have friends or family that understand. It sux! I don't have any advice on eating or anything since I haven't had it done yet, but no matter what, just remember God doesn't make junk. We are all perfect in His way. We damage our bodies and dont take care of them, so He made people to help us. I'm sure someone else will respond to this with some useful advice, I just want you to hang in there and take care of yourself!

Mela reacted to Skinnyagain in 1 Year Out An Its Not Good.Dear K33, don't let my set back or anyone'en set back stop you from doing something that can give you your life back. I can't speak for everyone, but if you don't use the tool properly it will not work, and that was my mistake. I was eating and drinking all the wrong things. This is a lifestyle change and not a miracle surgery it takes hard work dedication. (something I was not doing which led me to my temppeary hiccup.) I did not post my set back to discourage anyone. Like all my fellow slevers said 39 lbs is a victory and with their advice it helped me to remember that. That's why we post to help one another. Regardless if I ever meet my goal weight, the VSG was the best thing I ever did. I should mention that I was diabetic type 2 and now I am not. There are many reasons why I wanted the VSG, mostly I wanted to be able to move around and enjoy life with my kids without feeling tired and fat all the time. I am not saying it is easy, (diets are easy) it is hard work but you can do it and will not regret it if you do. And if your ever in a slump just go on here and they will put you back on track, like they did for me. Btw Today is 8 lbs gone since last Monday. Back in my way.

Mela reacted to shrinkinmama in Kinda Confused...All the wierd noises that the stomach makes...and they are loud is the digestion process...
I have been at this for a month now and i remember being so paranoid in the begining about eating or drinking the right amount or how I was supposed to feel. Every one always said you will know it just takes time to learn your body over again. I felt alot of pressure every time i even took the littlest sip...it will get eaiser to drink the Water. I used to hold a small water bottle up to my lilps and just take a little bit in ever minute or so while i was just sitting around watching tv or something. By the 2nd and then 3rd weeks it gets soooo much easier to get more in. I was freaking out at first becuase i felt like for the rest of my life i have to drink like a cat... you have got be kidding me. However I was wrong and i can take in alot more water..it goes down so much easier... you wil get there it just takes time but not too much time. I have started my soft food diet this week and I feel almost like I did when i started the liquids...its trial and error for each stage so until you get on regualr food it is try it and hope it goes down nice. good luck every one,

Mela reacted to chitowngirl in Cant Stop Obsessing!Congrats. I know it feels like forever, but before you know it may 31 will be here. I would suggest practacing with the slow eating, the whole chewing 30 times takes some getting used to.

Mela reacted to massindex in Sometimes I Luv The Forums Sometimes Not So Much!If you are serious about losing the weight, you will lose the weight. This is a tool and if you want to be successful, it's up to you. The tool just puts the brakes on if (and when) we mess up once in a while.
