The surgery does actually effect hormones, so that could be it. But have no fear the journey gets easier/better with each day that passes.

Its an emotional time, my support group said that many have feelings of overwhelming emotion after the surgery, your not alone, and soon enough you will be better, its a daily walk for a life time of change, stay strong and you will be fine. I have cried about three times since the surgery, the first being the feeling of completion, second was a feeling of loss in losing a part of myself I couldn't control, and the third was the joy of seeing myself get stronger each day. I am 16 days out and I went to the gym for the first time since surgery today, I felt like I was lazing off... only to be sent home by my sleeve buddy who had her surgery last year, as she told me this morning "you have had a major surgery, let your body heal at its own rate" "when its time, then you can do all the things you want without fear of complications." So, I say the same to you.. let your body heal and let your hubby help you, everyday you will be better and better :)

I think the impact of surgery's, anesthetics, and pain killers play havoc on many peoples emotions. I haven't had my sleeve yet, but when I had my hysterectomy I was a mess! My husband might think of dropping me off at a hotel with my Water and Protein and coming back to pick me up in a couple of weeks, lol. He barely survived that surgery. I'm sure he won't be looking forward to this.

The nurse in my doctors office before i left my one week appointment warned me that i would have emotional issues and if that is what having PMS kinda feels like god bless you women. but i am 7 weeks out and still having days like that but mine is mostly tired due to the amount of time i work i think. or that is what i am sticking with it.

For what it's worth, I got a lap band exactly one month ago today and I'm a TOTAL MESS!! No one on the lap band site is talking about this, so I came over here hoping I wasn't alone.

I've been crying, yelling at my husband and kid, freaking out, and just flat out depressed!!!

I joined BariatricPal in 2008 & I FINALLY made the descision to have WLS!! I'm so excited & not sure what I need to do to get the ball rolling, but I made an appointment with my PCP for 7/19. It's a start I guess.

I've been dreaming about it for 30 years or so. It's time to make it happen!

I joined yesterday when I was struggling with this preop diet...
It typically comes and goes, the hard times and easier times. I'm on day 6 of 14  shakes, water, sf Popsicles and jello. And I might actually be losing my mind. But, oh dear lord has the fear set in. Not about the surgery itself, but life afterwards. If I feel this crappy on the preop diet, am I going to feel like this forever after?
I know most of the answers are no, not forever. It might be worse after for a while, then get better. I know it's a more of a mental challenge than physical after the first couple weeks of healing. I get all of that. But I'm starting to feel scared about losing myself afterwards.
It might be my hormones or desire to chew something salty talking.. It may go away soon or tomorrow.. I can hope, anyway. But right now.. The fear is real.

And this liquid diet can bite me.

Fear is normal, but if it makes you feel any better, I'm 4.5 months post-op and the pre-op diet was by far the hardest part of the whole process. There will be challenges and a lot of new things to learn, but I can honestly say at this point I feel so much more "back to normal" and was even able to go on a week-long vacation with my kids without stressing over it. It's so worthwhile.

@NickelChip This actually does make me feel better! Thank you so much! After the onslaught of Covid, we've all had to deal with a "new normal", so I know it's possible. It's just the fear and frustration in this moment that makes me question if I can find another "new normal" afterwards. The thought of just a few more months seems daunting some times, but I really do appreciate input and real experience. I'll use that to get me through for a few more hours! LOL. Thank you so much! And I'm glad everything is going so well for you! ❤️
