Seth , Dr Armstrong was fantastic all went well its been 9 days & apart from being tired all is very good, down 5k in the 9 days although was told today I am not eating enough so will try to squeeze a bit more in to up my calories.

The first couple of days were a bit rough but I just kept focussing on the future & now I feel so happy.

you are in excellent hands so know you will fine too, all the best.

Shell you look amazing but more importantly you look so happy and I think I even saw a touch of 'attitude' in your after photo!! Good on you and thanks for the inspiration.

I wonder what type of surgery James Packer had? He looks great after losing 35kgs. I've read that it was gastric bypass surgery and I've also read it was lap band. Interesting to know which one and Joe Hockey the politician also reportedly had gastric bypass surgery too. I wonder why they had that instead of the sleeve?

Joe hockey had the gastric sleeve.... Back in December... ( write up in melb herald sun)

Hi Everyone

I haven't posted for a while but I have been reading and it is great to hear everyone's progress and all the different stages everyone is at - Dean - those chia seeds are amazing - having them on everything!

Well, as you may or may not know, I reached goal and I am still losing. I am not overly concerned yet as I am still within the healthy BMI but it is something I will need to keep an eye on. Not in my wildest dreams did I ever think I would actually be worried about being under weight!! To be honest, It is something I didn't consider at all as my surgeon told me that the weight loss would eventually stop - it really seemed like an impossible dream to reach the goal weight he had set! Has anyone else thought about this? What have you been told by your surgeons and dieticians?

Just for those who aren't familiar with my journey, here is a quick summary

Start weight: 102kg

Start health issues: Fatty Liver, High cholesterol, elevated sugars

Date of Surgery: 18 July 2012

Current Weight: 63kg

Height: 167cm (5'6")

BMI: 22-23

Total Weight loss:39kg

Current Health Issues: Liver function completely normal, cholesterol still a bit high 5.7, sugars normal, hair has stopped falling and slowly growing back.

Medication/Vitamins - Still on Nexium so have to go for another swallow test in March (yuck!) - I am also due another blood test so hoping no deficiencies rear their ugly heads - taking Multivitamin ,fish oil, Q10, and silica for nails and hair and supposed to be taking Calcium citrate that I keep forgetting to take!! Still taking Osmolax and struggle with my Fluid intake every day - probably drink too much tea and coffee but old habits die hard!

I think that's about it!

Just saw your photo Shell - you look amazing!

Hi,

I'm not really sure how to ask this but has anyone had any anger problems since their op? I looked through some other posts and one was saying they were angry all the time because they couldn't eat. That's not the case with me, it doesn't bother me at all, but I have a very very short fuse now, I will suffer no-one being an idiot or rude to me and I can just go off at the drop of a hat, it's pretty weird, I've mostly just kept things inside my whole

Life and its like now, everything justs comes screaming out.

Anyone who knows what I'm talking about, please give me your input, will it level out?

Maybe your emotions are just out of whack or it could be hormonal due to the changes happening with your body. I think I can relate a little. I certainly am more sensitive and don't suffer fools easily since getting my sleeve and feeling more confident about myself.

Sue, you and I are exactly the same, almost. I was 2kg heavier at start, am the same height, and now have a bmi of 20 because I'm 55kg.

I'm not losing weight quickly, but I'm still losing. I'm not exercising, but really want to and am just scared that even more weight will come off. I certainly don't want to gain, but I don't want to lose too much more, if I can help it.

Yes mini mee , I can remember having a bit of a short fuse in the early weeks/months after my op. Ii put it down to my body recovering/adjusting and therefore I wasn't feeling 100%. I certainly had a low tolerance level for idiots!

My dietician said that our bodies are in shock after the operation because we are in starvation mode - hence the hair loss, possible hormonal changes etc so I guess that would also effect your moods too especially since you also have the recovery from surgery to deal with in the early weeks. I am 7 months out and at goal so I am as happy as a pig in... Well you get what I mean - it does help that I took a year off work as well so have had plenty of time to get my self together with no stress therefore I am so darn cheerful it might be a bit irritating!

Hi puppyphat - Yes I had a feeling we were close in our stats - what does your dietician say. Mine says I will have to watch that I don't get too thin and if I continue to lose weight I may actually have to eat more!! I feel like I am constantly eating now so not sure how that is going to work!! As I said - I will cross that bridge if I come to it!

I keep reading threads about people having significant weight gain after they reach goal - I am at a loss as how that actually happens? I am not exactly being very strict on myself with what I eat - don't get me wrong, I do follow my rules on Protein and veges and fruit but if I feel like having a melting moment I will, and I still lose weight. Is there something I don't know about

and I am suddenly going to wake up one morning and start gaining kilos - I would hate to get back on that roller coaster again!!

I guess if I am totally honest and read over what I have just written I am a tad anxious about how to 'maintain' at one weight - or is that even possible?. Any ideas?

I'm a bit the same. Things are annoying me more than they did.

I think part of it is I'm an emotional eater and didn't really know it. I think in the past when I was having these feelings I'd eat something to make them go away. I obviously can't / don't do that anymore.

I'm trying to be conscious of feeling this way and dealing with it in other ways. It's a work in progress!

I'm obviously a long way from having to deal with an issue like this!!

If you track on myfitnesspal, or something similar, wouldn't it involve working with a dietician to find out how many cals you have to consume a day to maintain? A bit like finding your 'sweet spot' for optimum weight loss.

Then if you know what that is, say 1800 cals, you can consume in that ball park to maintain?
