Attention ! Australian Sleevers

Recommended Posts

Your friend sounds wonderful, Aussiegirl.

NSV? Does anyone in Brisbane have a recommended jeweler/goldsmith you can recommend to resize my wedding and engagement rings? I am in real danger of losing them off my finger. I don't feel I can trust just anyone, because you do hear stories of diamonds being switched etc. I will probably end up needing them resized at least once more during this journey. For now, I have switched to wearing them on the other hand, which feels really weird. It's strange how wearing rings makes your finger shrink, isn't it?

Hi Misty, i recommend the Robinson brothers and Robinson Jewellers at New Farm Village (Next to Harvey World Travel). I have used them many times over the years and they have also made jewellery for me and I trust them completely.

Did any of you see the Sunday program last night with Joe Hockey's interview? He spoke about having the sleeve last December and how he has already lost 30kgs and feels fabulous. They briefly described the procedure too, which might demystify it for some people and make it a more acceptable choice. He talked about his young daughter asking if he would be around by the time she grows up and gets married. When he spoke to his doctor, he confirmed that if he is still around, he would not be in good health and this was the decider for him. He realised he had to do something permanent to improve his health. Good on him for doing so and I think he looks amazing.

Hi guys. Need some advice please...

I have hit the dreaded week 3 stall. I know most people go thru this and I was expecting it, but I was wondering is there anything I can do to try and break it or do I just have to wait it out. Having under 800 calories per day. Getting in all my fluids. Protein about 40 g per day (I am trying to increase this). Any suggestions???

Relax, you are doing all the right things. Just keep it up and the weight will continue to come off when your body adjusts.

Get your Water and at least 30 minutes of movement per day. Work the plan. In a year it will just be a blip on your radar.

I agree with Misty and Kelli :) your body needs to go through a period of adjustment. It's super hard (I still struggle with this heaps) but try to take a long term view of the process and on 3 months you'll be amazed by what you have achieved!!

Thanks guys. I KNOW this is a normal part of the process and I KNOW it will break eventually, I just can't help but get disheartened!!! It's stupid because my logical brain knows all of this so I really shouldn't feel down about it...but of course can't help it! Maybe some miracle will happen when I see my surgeon today and jump on the scales!!! Hope so.

I had a nice loss this time! Down from 81.2 to 79.4 which puts me in the 70s! I'm lighter (just) than my wedding weight in 2002. I did Weight Watchers like crazy to get there that time. I did get about 10 kg lower than that in 2003 but wasn't able to maintain that. I am pleased about this loss because my losses were really slowing down for a few weeks. I want to lose as much as possible in the first 6 months, to take full advantage of the "honeymoon" period. I passed the 3-month mark last week.

Well tomorrow is my 12 month sleeve anniversary. I can't believe how fast the time has gone. I started at 107kg and am now 74kg. BMI was 41 and now is 27. Was size 18-20, but now 12-14. No longer have sleep apnea or need to sleep with a CPAP machine and far less likely to develop diabetes. Still have a few kilos to go to get to my personal goal of 68kg, but feeling positive and looking forward to working on maintenance plan. For anyone contemplating the sleeve as a surgery option I only have positive things to say about it and hope it becomes more widely used in future.

Congrats Kelli. You've done an amazing job and you're a terrific support.

All the best, D x

Welcome to the thread, Lissa! I love the couch to 5k and this time around, I am loving the app! It sure beats having to time yourself like I did 10 years ago when I first did it.

Um, I thought I was sending this to the Couch to 5k thread. LOL. Of course you don't need a welcome to this thread, Lissa! I feel silly now!

LOL 'couch2kk' and the 'aussiesleevers' - my two fav threads ...... worlds collide! ;)

I agree with what everyone has said.

Your body is in shock. For these 'early' stalls I wouldn't mix it up too much to try and break it ... it will break all by itself if you're doing the right things. Don't confuse your body even more is my policy :)

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
