Attention ! Australian Sleevers

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone, I have been following this thread for a while and just love how supportive and helpful you all are. I live in Sydney and I had a gastric bypass on the 4th march. Is it ok if I go on this site? I haven't found a Aussie bypass forum and u all sound lovely. I started off at 130kg pre op lost 6 kg on Optifast and now I'm down to 116kg. I had a 2 week stall and it looks like it is going down again ( cross fingers) hope u all have a great day!!!!

Hi,

Welcome to the thread. I am on an Aussie Bypass FB page and in my discussions with my Bypass friends, it seems that our goals and 'issues' if they occur seem to be very similar. If you're interested in joining the FB page, please let me know and I can get you added?

Congratulations on your success so far. Well Done.

Best Wishes

Michele

Hi everyone,

I haven't been here in a while because 'life' has gotten a bit busy....a "direct" consequence of having a Sleeve done 11 months ago.

I have been busy starting to 'live' again !!!!!!!!!

Yesterday, I received a phone call that I had been hoping to get for a couple of weeks , and I was officially accredited to be a Foster Carer for children of all ages from Newborn to 17. And then this afternoon, I got a second phone call telling me that I will be caring for a 7 year old girl with Special Needs as of tomorrow.

This is the realisation of a lifelong dream to care for children. I wanted to do Paediatric Nursing when I started Nursing, but my Father thought I should do 'General Adult' Nursing, so I did as I was told.

Because my Sleeve has given me my Life back I can do what I have always wanted to do....at 58 years of age I am starting a new phase. I am also hoping to go back to some Part time work. "Pre-Sleeve", I would never have dreamed that any of this would be possible.

I am really happy about the 7 year old, but my 'ultimate dream' is to care for Infants and Pre-school age kids...that will happen just not right at this moment.

Congratulations to everyone who is starting out on this adventure and to those that have achieved success with making this decision of a Lifetime.

Keep up the good work everyone.

Best Wishes

Michele

I'm excited that I'm still losing (slowly) past the 10 month mark! 61.8 this morning! My surgeons goal is 60 and I would like to get to 55 or maybe 50. I'm not stressed and not even actively TRYING to lose.

I understand what Michelle means about living your new life. I'll be starting a new job mid-April that I would never have gone for before. I'm getting a pretty substantial raise and will be removing my stress significantly. So grateful for my sleeve!

Hi angel_ina ,

I hope everything goes well for you on the 29th April.

That will be my one year anniversary, and if you have as easy a time as I have had then you will be smiling from ear to ear like I am these days.

All the Best for a safe surgery and a speedy recovery.

Michele :)

Thanks all. I'm excited. I'm actually moving out of a management role back to an individual role as a technical writer. And I could not be more happy! I've had fun and learned heaps, but it's time to get back to writing and less (or at least a different kind of) stress. Now that I've lost this weight I want to do more with my life than just work all the time! I think I also feel more confident in my judgment and can make the right decision for me even if it is an unconventional one.

Hi everyone

Just an update... still exercising but the weight isnt moving much but still grateful that it is at least making my inches go down.... started in a size 26 (loose) and now down to an 18... goal is a 12. I am up to 6km's a day and will probably maintain that for awhile but I have locked into the HBF run for a reason which is 12 km's.... OMG I never ever would have thought i would do something like that... I am not going to lie and say i love exercising because I DONT but i sure love how i feel afterward... I am struggling with food tho and have had a real pig out week... :( i am not going to let it get me down and am not going to beat myself up but just wish i had more self control sometimes.... anyhow love reading all the posts and everyone that is getting ready for your WLS it will be the best thing you have ever done even with all the mental struggles!

Hi all, I'm new to the site. I'm scheduled for my sleeve on the 8th of April in Victoria with Ray McHenry. I'm on day 6 of my pre op diet and have slipped up with a piece of fish today :( I was at a party and felt like I had to eat something. Anyway straight back onto it now. Great reading everyone's experiences on here

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
