Attention ! Australian Sleevers

Recommended Posts

Another Aussie here. Sleeved 10 months ago by Dr Joseph in the Mater hospital Sydney.

I cant say enough good things about how the surgery has gone for me. Most the surgery was covered under my health fund, including private hospital but still out of pocket around $5k.

I have lost 66kgs in the last 10 months and am happier and healthier than I could have imagined!

Happy to answer any questions anyone has.

Good luck to you all on your journey.

Hi ladies, I'm on the gold coast, but getting sleeved in Brisbane hopefully very soon. As I don't have private health insurance it was going to cost me $17000 on the coast, however a surgeon in Brisbane does the sleeve in an intermediate basis so will only cost $12000 (only? Lol) I am just waiting on my super being approved....sent in on the 22nd June, can anyone tell me how long it took for them to get approved?

Semi-Aussie here. Still working on Aussie citizenship but refer to Australia as home! :-)

I'm getting a band revision to sleeve on 14 Aug at Mount Waverly in Melbourne.

Don't worry it's just money, you will gain happiness. I paid $9000 so I know exactually where your coming from plus a little :)

It's day 4 today and 8kg down already, I don't regret a thing, I am loving it, have a bit of an obsession jumping on the scales a million times a day. I really need to stop!

Hey thanks Angie Pang! I was going to buy it when I was out this morning, glad I read this first!! Due to work and family commitments I probably won't be getting sleeved till the end of September but my surgeon wants me on it for a minimum of 3 weeks!

The Opti-fast phase was the worst experience of all. Once you get through that (assuming no complications) so much easier. I only ate the bars and the Desserts as I do not like the shakes, actually they make me gag. Once you get onto Clear Liquids and mushies etc, you can atleast have flavour in your food.< /p>

Good luck with that..I dont have much advise other than it is just a phase to get through, and you will and from there it gets easier.

I am dreading the Optifast phase. I just know I will be cranky and miserable throughout it. Well that was what I experienced when I went on a shake diet many years ago- and I got to eat atleast one meal then! I will just have to remember that there is a light at the end of the tunnel.....surgery!

Really you do need to focus on that, there is a light at the end of the tunnel. I remember the ketosis taste in my mouth like was yesterday and it really was like 10 and 1/2 months ago. But believe me there is light at the end of the tunnell and all most good things dont come without some hard work..thats how you enjoy them more. I would occasionally have steamed green veggies while I was on opti fast which was a nice change. I had one cheat when I was out and had fresh seafood (prawns, smoked salmon), which made me so ill after the detoxing my body was done...

Hi there Aussie Sleevers,

I am from Brisbane QLD and had my op on 20/7/12. I have been home for a day now and doing great. My surgeon was Dr Reza Adib and was done at the Wesley Hospital. I had no problems at all and the worst experience of the whole surgery was undertaking the leak test as it was absolutely disgusting.

I know this is the best decision I have made and can't wait for my new healthy and active lifestyle ahead of me.

I also go to the Australian gastric sleeve support site but also find it hard to navigate around and find this site is so user friendly especially on my mobile.

Would love to hear from more Aussies on this site and share our experiences.

It's great to finally talk with others who have or are getting sleeves. I like the banding together site, but it is deninately more focused on lapands. I also look on thinner times, which is a US based site. They seem to do mainly gastric bypass and sleeves there and very few lapands in the States. I would like to meet with any of you especially if you in Brisbane. I also visit the Gold Coast quite often, so happy to meet up for a coffee. Cheers kelliv

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
