Good morning. Sunday I started cream Soup. I had not been taking my Prevacid. Sunday night, I just felt stuffed from a few teaspoons of soup, but it never went away. Monday was just miserable, it took me all day & a conversation with a good friend to figure out it was heartburn. I didn't eat anything but 2 - 2 1/2 oz. of yogurt that evening. I drank all day, but no Protein. On Tuesday, while the heartburn was gone, I was so weak yesterday, & I now believe its because I had no protein the day before. Even yesterday I had not desire to eat. Well I learned. Prevacid everyday. Protein Drink everyday. Lots of liquid everyday. And I'll work on the rest. It sucks to have a string of good days & then to get knocked on your behind.

Yes, it does. The hearburn for me is really bad, so I know how you feel. Hang in there, it will get better.

It is frustrating to learn lessons the hard way. But your on the right path now! Keep it up and you will be fine. There are days when you are going to be completely zapped of your energy and that's ok. Just enjoy today. ;)

Heartburn is the worst. It actually made me sick the other morning. I have been taking an over the counter med the last few weeks as I have ran out of the one I was given after surgery. I wish I had asked for more.

My god sister had the bypass 4 years ago. Today she told she always has a heating pad with her for heartburn & gas.

I was sleeved on March 27th. The first several weeks were really great. I had tons of energy, no heartburn and in general felt really good. Last week I had horrible heartburn, heartburn so bad that dry heaving was the only thing that relieved it. I'm like you, I take Prilosec everyday and don't miss it. Having the surgery really is like learning how to ride a bike again as far as habits go. Its frustrating because your mind knows how to do it but your body doesn't. Give it some time and have faith in knowing that this is one of the best things you could do for yourself. Don't let the bad days get you down, they get easier and for me have been few and fair between. :)

Thank you. I had some apple sauce today & can swear I feel a little something something. I'm thinking about how a good old Seagrams ginger ail WAS the cure all for stomach woes.

Apple sauce was good to me in the beginning. I will tell you what my doctor said to me... He said if you don't feel like eating, you don't have to. For the first few weeks, make your focus staying hydrated and getting your Protein in. I knowing having said that how hard that is because my brain still told me to eat food, but there is nothing that says you have to. Did you have a hiatal hernia that your Dr had to fix? You might want to talk to your doctor about the heartburn, especially considering how severe it sounds.

Have you tried GasX nurse told me to try it as I left the hospital with gas pain. I also took previcid 20mg. and had to take gasx with my meals and bedtime for a while. I still take gasx if I have a spicy or gassy food!

You might try some ginger tea. Ginger is good for stomach aches and issues. It ususally comes as green tea and ginger. If you don't want any caffine, read the lable as green tea does have some caffine in it, but not as much as coffee. You could also get some ginger root, peel and slice a piece off and brew some yourself from scratch. Just a thought since ginger seems to really help settle your tum. Happy brewing :)

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
