I understand that everyone's body reacts differently to the surgery, but I am curious to know what the people with "sleeves of steel" ate on their post-op diet. Any information is greatly appreciated. Thanks so much!

The Post Op diet is lean Proteins, veggies, little bit of starches, and plenty of exercise. I eat:

Chicken, beef, pork, Protein Shakes, eggs, cheese, sf puddings, cottage cheese, cheeses, ham, steak, Beans. Dark green veggies and colorful veggies as well, and part of fruits. ;)

I gave myself this name about 1 month out cause I could/ can tolerate everything and anything-- which is great! Just small portions obviously. :-) I eat what I want but focus on Proteins. I eat a lot of cheese, steak, and eggs and drink a lot of milk.

I have discovered my sleeve can tolerate pretty much anything I have tried!

I am only 1 month out now. I focus on Proteins but eat whatever I like in small doses.

My immediate post-op diet was like anyone else's. I didn't eat "real" foods until three weeks out, when my doc said I could start to explore food.

So I stuck to sf pudding, popsicles, broths, Soups, cottage cheese, yogurt, soft cheeses, tuna etc.

I am 2 months post op and I also have a "sleeve of steel" I discovered I can eat pretty much anything I want in really small amounts. My post op diet was pretty much what everyone has I think. I did make a lot of my own Soups so I could add veggies to them and puree them. I also made my own chicken salad puree If I wanted it I would try it.

I have tried all kinds of things and nothing at all has bothered me. I stick with mostly Proteins and green veggies but I do have carbs sometimes. I love cheese any kind. My favorite snack is a slice of boars head blackforest deli ham with some cream cheese spread on it I put raw baby spinach and diced jalapenos then roll it up. Sometimes I used sliced chicken if it's what I have. I also have made beef cabbage tacos so so yummy. I cook regular dinners for my family and just eat small amounts of what I can. If I make Chicken alfredo and Pasta with broccoli I just eat the chicken and Pasta. Turkey meatballs are another favorite I make a lot and freeze them and then pop a few in the toaster oven when I want them.

I would say my diet is pretty normal now. I am probably not the normal sleever. I do have sweets on occasion. I do not do artificial sweeteners at all I can't stand them and i really don't like the idea of putting all those chemicals in my body. So I just drink Water or green tea with mint and honey. I average 700 to 900 calories per day. Sometimes though when I exercise my calories get cancelled out.. So I end up in the negative. I have lost 50 lbs in just 2 months and I feel great no fatigue or pain. Everyone is different though. I hope this helps. I have lots of recipes if you want I can share them with you.

I keep saying if "sleeve of steel" wasn't already taken, I'd grab it! (not seriously, but you get my point;)

Immediately post op:

7 days Clear liquids

2 more weeks of Clear Liquids that included cream Soups and Protein drinks

2 weeks of "blenderized" foods after that

then 3 weeks of "soft" foods.

I stuck to this plan TO the letter! I didn't mess with this one bit, and I healed so well, that now I can eat salad or other raw veggies, or steak or whatever! I have not found ONE thing I can not tolerate, and Lord willing, I won't. I really attribute this to my sticking to the post op diet I was given by the surgeon.

I will feel badly for about 20 minutes IF: I eat too fast, too much, or too big of bites. I really need to learn to slow down. :s

LOL...sleeve of steel here for sure! There is no liquids or mushies phase where I am, so I was on normal food from three days post-op! I have NEVER had a problem with anything I've eaten; in 14 months since VSG, I've had one sleeve-related pain when I randomly drank some Water too fast (though I've often drunk faster than that, so I think it was just a fluke). I can eat *anything*, I swear. I have a hard time only with potatoes (like a brick they are) and rice (which I also didn't like pre-op anyhow). Everything else is easy. I don't have to eat slow or chew a lot or any of those proper behaviors...! I feel I had it very easy and I'm very glad about that.

Having said all that, for the first few months post-op, I did eat a lot of cottage cheese, yogurt, shrimp, cream spinach, tuna, Beans, mozarella, etc. But I also ate meat, chicken, fish -- no problems. I don't have any issues with sugar or fatty foods either. I'm telling you, I can eat ANYTHING.

I've also never lost my sense of hunger AT ALL. I've had it all along. Though to be fair, my hunger was not overwhelming to me pre-op anyhow, so it's not been bothersome to me per se. It's not been a barrier to success, though I'm still about five kg from my 'ultimate' goal. Meh, I'll get there. ;)

Thank you everyone who shared. I just was wondering if what you ate immediately post-op had any difference on what you could tolerate in the long run. My post-op diet is 4 weeks of liquids and I am on week 3 of that. I am allowed to start mushy food on week 6. I see from all of your posts that everyone has a different post-op diet, but those of you with "sleeves of steel" seem to have started the mushy phase sooner than what I am allowed. I find this all to be so interesting. I just hope that I end up with a steel sleeve too =)

      I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

      Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
      Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

      Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

        I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.
