Surgery Biggest Mistake Of Life!

i am nearly two weeks out from having surgery and I'm so incredibly unhappy!! I'll be the first to say I was one of the ones who scoffed at the posts where people seemed unhappy....surely this wouldn't happen to me! Surely I would be in the more populus group of those thrilled with surgery. I am on e the smaller side when it comes to bariatric patients so I thought I'd recover easily and would be on my way to skinnyville.....ummmm no... After surgery pain was excruciating...I mean I have dealt with pain in my life....but this is a new level. The pain management people came in time and again asking me on a scale of one to ten and my answer was always the same 10+++++. The pain medication got stronger and even morphine and other drugs couldn't even take the edge off. I was in pain like this for 3 days!! I could barely get a sim of water in and I was dry heaving constantly. It was horrible! Finally the pain subsided from the surgery but now I have this constant pain in my back...upper to righthand side. Feels almost like food is stuck there. Went down wrong hole and I desperately wanna wash that chunk of food down....but guess what? I didn't eat any food and drinking makes that pain worse. Please anyone know what this pain is? Will it ever go away and will I be in pain every time i eat for the rest of my life? Sorry to be so dramatic, but it seriously doesn't feel like it's ever going to go away. I am soooooooooo tired. Exhausted beyond belief....no matter how much protein or vitamins nothing helps...I have a business and I really need some energy. My business is suffering. And to top it all off i lost 20 lbs in 4 days, great right? Well I honestly believe most of this was just water weight and weight dropping off from my last meal or two....I have not dropped a single lb in over a week now. My stomach is swelled and I'm not even eating...only liquids....sugar free high protein liquids. I even gained a lb! I used to eatbso much food, I'm talking 5000 a day and my weight went up a lb a month maybe...now I'm drinking 300 calories a day and nothing!! I'm going crazy!! This is like a nightmare I can't wake from!! I keep hoping I will wake up....have money in my bank account, be able to eat food...cause man the cravings don't go away and they are horrible!! I MAY NOT BE HUNGRY BUT MY MIND WANTS FOOD MORE THAN I HAVE EVER BEFORE....IF YOU USE FOOD FOR PLEASURE AND IT IS MORE OF A MENTAL THING FOR YOU...THIS SURGERY MAY NOT HELP U AT ALL! I just want my body back and I know I never can! It's so weird knowing life will never be the same.

  • I just want to re-iterate one point made above. When we're talking about gas pain being normal, we're not talking about intestinal gas (but there is some), but surgical gas. When they are in there

  • First, do call your surgeon. Persistent pain is not OK, I'm surprised they discharged you at a 10+ pain rating. If you're in that much pain, it is not appropriate to expect you will just "deal with

  • I can't understand why you aren't on a PPI already!! I started mine immediately when I got home 20mg of Prilosec 2x a day. That could be a lot of the pain you're still feeling. I'm so sorry you're f

Shelby21, I am glad to see that you are feeling better - it gives me hope. I am four weeks out and I have has many moments of regret and shed alot of tears over the last few weeks. I had very little pain, but I do have tons of acid reflux and I have absolutely nooooo energy, despite the Vitamins and Protein. I seem to be a little depressed, and I wonder if I will ever feel normal again?

I find it incredibly difficult when I eat with my family or co-workers...I am done after like 2 minutes, maybe 3 or 4 bites and yet I have to sit there and continue to watch them stuff their faces for another 10 minutes. I so desperately want to eat more. I have literally cried a couple of times at the dinner table because I can't "enjoy" eating with them.

Does anyone have any good tips for getting over this? And how long did it take you guys before you started to feel "normal" again?

i am 7 1/2 weeks out and I am still tired some in the afternoons but it is getting better. I have noticed the further out I get the Less i can eat. Just 1 or 2 bites and my stomach feels sooo full and I feel bad. I am eating proteins, no "junk food" in over 2 months. i have discovered that eggs do not sit well with me anymore they did at first but now not so much. @i_did_it, I understand what you are talking about, I have noticed my wife tries to eat very fast so I am not just sitting there while she eats but I tell her that isn't healthy and I am okay, but sometimes I am not okay and want to EAT!!!!. To OP I am glad you are starting to feel better about your choice. In the end it will all be good I hope for you. I hope for a healthier more acitve life for us all!!!!

Talk to the doctor if in pain... Also WALK WALK WALK' date=' if it is the gas it will help your body absorb it[/quote']

I was hurting in the same place 6 days after surgery, my hubby reminded me that they told me to walk ...I started walking more and sitting up in the recliner and two days later it was much better ,

I dont know if I will ever get back to normal, I guess I just need to make a new normal for myself. It should have never been normal for me to sit there and stuff my face til I felt miserable. i do miss certain foods that I feel like ill never be able to enjoy again...breads, pizza, burgers....really anything with bread, bun, or tortilla...its impossible for me to enjoy these. I think its best, I took advantage of these foods for way too long. Ive been walking and exercising more. it does make me feel better.

OOOOOOOO, look at your ticker NOW!!

I eat pizza. I just eat the topping off an tear a tiny pice off of the back crust. I also make my own pizza using whole wheat tortillas as the "crust."

I eat burgers and tacos. I only have 1 corn tortilla or two of the tiny carne asada ones or 1/4 of a whole grain bun. It's enough.

When I go hiking I have 1/2 slice of Trader Joes Rustic bread with Peanut Butter. I have to have extra carbs for mountain hiking.

We just have to be smart with carbs.
