Changes In Period Symptoms After Sleeve

Recommended Posts

Hey everyone. I hope all is well. I haven't been feeling good for the past 2 days. I noticed that its correlating to my forecasted period start of tomorrow. For years, I've been able to pinpoint the start of my period by my pre-period symptoms of bloating, chocolate cravings, and excessive road rage. Now, everything is different. I'm nauseous, especially at the sight and smell of food. The only thing Ive really been eating today is a pack of crackers and gatorade. They seem to settle my stomach. I've never experienced this much nausea before. :( I don't like this. I have a weird fear of throwing up. It hurts too much.

Did anyone else notice a change in your cycle symptoms? What can I do to combat this nausea?

Sorry, I can offer no solution to the nausea...I am still in the lab working on that one. But, I can tell you that I feel your pain! I was having a lot of nausea and my doc told me that I had something called 'water nausea' where I can't have plain Water. Also, more sensitive to smells and even textures. Plus, I can't eat cold food. Its mostly just a matter of finding out what works for you. Its trial and error. Remember, if you have concerns, always consult your surgeon.

You are not alone! I was your polar opposite when it came to my period prior to sugery. My gyn put me on a Mirena IUD just to get my very irregular period to stop. I had the IUDfor about 9 months prior to surgery and during that time my period was scarce. Since my sugery (11/21/11) my period has come every month and is coming almost like clockwork. All of my PMS symptoms are very different too. Before I would have the occasional backache or headache and maybe a good cry but now its like I'm a different person the week or two before. I feel almost everything associated with my cycle and I am very very moody. I think we have to adjust as our bodies are adjusting.

Prior to surgery my surgeon gave me suppositories in case I had nausea. You may want to ask about that or try a homeopathic remedy. I get nausea at certain smells too and that's without PMS and Aunt Flo. I'm sure the sensitivity of both your new physical changes and your period make this ten times worse. Hopefully things will get better as your body adjusts. Oh and I put a period tracker app on my phone that lets me track my symptoms and mood every day as well as tracking my cycle. That may help you get a handle on things before they start.

I can DEF tell that after my surgery my hormones are all out of wack! I never had much of a problem with pms but now i'm moody, cranky, i feel like i have no energy and worst of all i'm craving everything! It's like i'm never satisfied with food! I'm going crazy because at only 2.5 months out I don't want to start giving into cravings but I can't stop thinking about food (most notably chocolate, carbs and ice cream). I WISH food was making me nauseous!!!!!!!!

All I can hope for is that this will go away after my period is done.... :(

What kind of suppositories did he give you?

I started my period 2 days ago and can barely eat due to nausea!! I'm glad I found someone else with this issue, though I wish no suffering on anyone, of course lol I guess it's our crazy hormones. I had horrible nausea 24/7 when I was prego with my daughter so I shouldn't be surprised lol

Glad I found this thread. I actually had my period the week before my surgery, which was last week. Today I'm post-op 3 days and I got my period again. I was like great, on top of all the changes I'm going thru now I gotta deal with this. Hopefully it is due to hormones being out of whack cos of the major changes to our bodies. I'll just have to monitor it. Plus it could be from stopping birth control in the middle of 1st week of pills. My doc told me even if I continue my pack it won't make a difference until 6 weeks post-op. oh not having problems with smells but all the foods I see on tele look totally disgusting. lol

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
