Help Me! I Still Have A Rash!

Recommended Posts

I'm 3 weeks post op since March 12th... since the 22nd I've developed a rash over each incision.. I now have a rash on my chest and on my lower back.. I spike to the Dr and he said it may be a reaction to the surgical glue ( yes glue not tape) and / or the string they used to stitch me up on the inside.. he suggested I take benedryl and cortizone cream ... its not working.. I'm hella itchy and the rash seems to be getting bigger!!! I don't know what to do.. should I go to the er or should I wait a bit longer to see if it goes away on its own or see a dermatologist or wat!?!?! Someone help!!!

I would make an appt with the surgeon as he is the one that closed your incisions

Oh and since you are only 3 weeks post op your visit will be covered under your global surgical fee. This means that anything that is related to your WLS is covered for a period of time post op. This can vary with different insurance companies and the type of surgery. If you go see a derm doctor you are going to be paying a copay at least so I would first try the surgeon.

Thanx.. I saw my surgeon right before the wash started .. called him to let him know and that's all he suggested along with going to a dermatologist if it doesn't go away

Try Menthol Cortaid- it is a GEL and not a cream. I have horrible excema and the menthol Cortaid gel is the best thing ever! It may sting a bit if your rash sores are scratches open, but it works like a charm every time!

Good luck and happy healing.

I had my surgery on march 6th and I'm going through the same thing. Terribly itchy, all over my tummy. When I called the dr. The told me I shouldn't itch at all. I don't get it either but will be watching to see how things go with you.

Any time I break out I cut a piece of my aloe plant and apply it to the irritated area. Not only will it sooth the irritation but it will help the rash go away. Unfortunately it does need to be an actual aloe plant. Worse case scenario go buy one and keep it on hand. You will be surprise how much you'll use it.

I had the same thing. Surgeon hadn't seen anything like it before. Started two weeks post op. each incision site looked like a bulls eye and itched. The rash wash contained around each incision site. Tape had been gone for at least a week. They gave me a steroid and anti fungal cream to use. Still don't know what caused it but the cream worked.

I had the same thing they said I was allergic to the adhesive, it was awful and so itchy I couldn't stand it. It got much worse then finally better. I put itch cream on it from Target. Good luck.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
