I'm scheduled for the sleeve on April 10th. My bmi is only 28 but I'm approved in Mexico because I got the band there, which is not working n makes it very painful to eat. My fear is that because my BMI is so low that I will lose too much weight and become frail and sickly. Is there anyone out there whose BMI was similar to mine they can give me your results and how you doing? I'm having my surgery done at the Obesity Control Center in Mexico the same place the lap band was placed. I spoke with one of the surgeons today who informed me that the only reason with my low. BMI that I am a candidate for the sleeve is because I have the band and it's not working. Again I am just afraid of losing too much weight and becoming sick does anyone have a similar experience?

I too was banded in 07 in Mexico. Got sleeved with barely a 30 BMi. I am 15 days out and have only lost around 9 lbs but I can't eat. I am nauseous all the time. They said it will get better and once I eat more I will lose more which is true. I too was scared of losing too much weight as well. I'm shooting for 110 at my lowest. I am only 5'1 " so that is very healthy for me. How about you?

Because of my pre-op diet, I was a BMI of 30.5 on my surgery day. I had a BMI as high as 37 when I was heaviest but I had been dieting to bring it down. I knew it was just a matter of time before the weight came back on because over the course of my adult life I've lost 270 pounds from diets (and this isn't counting all the short diet times where I lost 10-15 pounds over and over). With my "low" BMI I was able to reach a "normal" BMI by 3 mo. out, but then it really slowed down and now I only lose a few pounds each month. I eat when I'm hungry, exercise by doing a lot of walking and hiking, and I am 2 pounds from my goal weight of 140 (BMI 22.1). At first I was worried that I'd get too thin and wouldn't be able to maintain a healthy loss, but as my body reached a normal weight, it naturally slowed itself down and I can see now that I think I'll be able to maintain a weight of 135-140 without too much trouble.

I am 4 weeks out and low BMi but can't lose weight. I have been stuck between 149.5 and 148 for almost two weeks. Did you have a hard time losing.? I am on puréed now maybe adding calories will help

What's your BMI?

Between 3 and 4 weeks I experienced a stall which is very common. Perhaps you are going through the typical stall that happens at this time. I would continue to follow your doctor's outlined program (usually high Protein, low carb, plenty of fluids...) and after your body has had a chance to play catch up your weight should begin to drop again. I have had many, many "stalls" because I tend to lose in a stair step fashion. Plateau, lose, plateau, lose...

Starting BMi was 30. I hope your right. I am glad too though that it isn't extremely drastic. I need to increase the fluids. I will work on that starting tomorrow. Ty so much for your info

Geez, now I am getting nervous but for not being able to lose enough weight. I also have a low BMI, getting sleeved next Monday and have a goal weight of 120. Am I setting myself up for a heartache? My starting weight is 172

Honestly, even if you did drop below your ideal weight, you will be able to get back up once your stomach stretches out a bit. I dropped to 136, which for my frame was quite low - my bones were sticking out of everywhere, and it even hurt to sit because my butt was so bony - but then I started eating more and putting on some muscle mass and things have reshaped quite nicely at 140-142 lbs.

My BMI was 32 and I ony had 55 lbs. to lose, but it was all in my abdomen. I am only 15 lbs. away from my goal. Everone goes through stalls, so don't worry. Continue to take your Vitamins, drink lots of Water and get tahtbprotein in and you will do fine.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
