Did You Go To The Hospital Alone Or Accompanied?

Recommended Posts

I'm curious to know since a lot of people choose not to tell others about their surgery due to their negative responses, on the day of the surgery did you go their alone? We're u accompany? And if you were accompanied did you decide to tell that person or persons the day before???

I flew to Mexico alone as I did not really have anyone that could go with me. Being single it was not really a problem for me. I guess that it depends on you and how comfortable you are being alone.

I went to the hospital my myself. I only told my mom about the surgery and she had to watch my daughter while I was in the hospital.

I'm actually glad I didn't have anyone there, because all I really did in the hospital was sleep. I face time chatted on my iPad several times throughout the day with my daughter when I was actually awake.

If I had to do it over again I would do it the same way.

My husband took me to the hospital and my sister watched our daughter. My husband was in and out because I was sleeping most of the time and there was no point in him staying there to watch me sleep. Glad he was with me before surgery but not much for him to do in the hospital. It was helpful to have him around the first couple of days home.

My mom was with me the entire time, but I asked that no one else (mainly my grandmother) come. I felt anybody else would be too much for me to handle. But my mom was perfect, she backed off when I was grumpy (the pain meds were too strong at first so I was dizzy and moody and grumpy lol) but never left my side. I remember her at one time asking "do you want to watch tv, no, do you want to read, no, do you want to just lie there, yes, do you want me to do your hair, no, do you want me to sit with you no, would you like me to leave so you can sleep, NO" LOL... she was teasing me and it was nice that she was just there.

I didn't tell too many people before surgery, and I haven't told a lot of people after either. Mainly I just don't feel like it is any of their business.

One of my older sisters came from another state to go to the hospital with me, which was a waste of time, cause I slept the whole first two days! Lol!

Well I am Hispanic and everyone knew I was having surgery, I went to the hospital with my husband, my children, my parents, and my best friend, oh yeah my sister showed up too before I went in... I was visited by lots of family and friends in the next couple days after. I don't understand the whole secrecy thing only those near and dear were told about the surgery and which is still alot of people, but the outpouring of support has been great

I had my surgery on a Monday in Tijuana, Mexico. I was released from the hospital on Wednesday and I flew back home on Friday morning. I had pretty much stocked up my kitchen before I left for surgery so that I did not have to go to the store or go out if I did not feel like it. I guess that I did not go out or drive the car until the following Wednesday but I did not drive far. The worst part of the driving for me was that going home to see my mother which is a 3 hours drive was tiring and the seatbelt rubbed over the incision areas on my stomach.

Me and my sister both had ours done on the same day. My mom and dad drove us there and checked us in and visited before the surgery and were there after to see us in our rooms but they couldn't stay at hospital with us so they stayed at hotel till next morning when we were released. My hubby had to watch my kids, but boy did I really want him there. It is much better to have someone to stay with you.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
