Why Do I Continue To Get Sick.

Recommended Posts

About 2 weeks after surgery I got pleurisy and pnomnia. A week later I get mono. I week after that get a sinus cold. And now I have strep. I can't win. I take my Vitamins and I drink my Water. I am getting the right amount of Protein. Why is this happening... What can I do? I am tired of being sick every other week.

I'm 4 weeks out and 2 days after surgery I got a horrible cold! Sneezing, coughing everything! Then I got my wounds infected, then I got a uti from all the antibiotics and not drinking enough water! I Haven't gotten sick this week though!!! Hopefully the sickness strike is over soon for you!!!

That pneumonia is a killer! Make sure your doctor has given you antibiotics to totally eradicate the infection. If you're still having lingering problems, it may be time for some blood work to determine if you still have an infection. Good luck!!

First off pneumonia is a common problem with people that have had a major surgery. This happens as we become more sedintary. We seem to rest, sit and lay around more after surgery. That is why they want you up and moving so that the Fluid does not collect in your lower lungs. You are also probably not taking in deep breaths as you have pain and discomfort with this activity. This does not let your lungs completely expand and can cause problems that can lead to pneumonia. I would suggest taking deep breaths to help expand those lungs. Some of your other things have probably come due to a decrease in your fluids. For the UTI you can try drinking some Diet Cranberry juice which I find very refreshing over some ice. It has 5 calories per serving.

You may also be getting the sinus infection from being around others as you immune system is lowered after having a major surgery. This can happen to any of us.

I would try and get in your fluids, take your Vitamins and get some exercise including deep breaths.

I hope that this all stops for you and you start to feel better and more like yourself. I know that being down for a long period of time is not much fun. Hang in there and things will start to improve for you. Small steps.

I have never had a UTI with this surgery. I want to know how to get my immune system to go back to the way its suppose to be.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
