Denied Due To Weight Gain-Suggestions?

Insurance submission was on Tues. Got denied immediately Wed. due to I'd gained almost 10lbs. over the winter instead of losing..apparently they want to see at least 5% total body fat loss prior to surgery. So am working on this but here's the thing..I gained due to having ddd in my back and since last summer haven't been able to really exercise like I was due to the extreme pain in my back and shooting down my right leg..the back pain and getting some of the weight off was one of my reasons for getting surgery..to aleviate the pain some as there's no cure or surgery according to the neurosurgeon..I haven't been the same at all since last summer when I really messed my back up and had to quit the gym and everything, even yard work was trying for me and I LOVE being out in the yard doing stuff..does anyone have any suggestions on how to lose the weight without extreme exercise? I mean, I am eating low carb and cutting my portions but as soon as I can show 5% tbw loss I can be approved.

In January, the third month of my pre-approval WL waiting period, I horribly re-injured my lower back. Was unable to walk for about a month and even now I cannot walk any distance or do any exercise

  • How many pounds would 5% TBW be for you? I would never recommend it as a long term solution, but if you need a quick scale drop it's hard to beat an induction style diet. I noticed you mentioned yo

Can you do some light walking at least 30 minutes per day? I think you are doing great if you are eating low carb ,low fat and controlling your portions , I am pretty sure you will lose those 10 lbs

Are you counting your carbs? You need to make sure not to get more than 20 in per day. It's hard to do for long periods of time. Make sure you drink a lot of water too.

I see someone else mentioned that silk and protein is kinda high in sugar and carbs. I give that to my toddlers as a part of their breakfast because of the carb content. I am post op and try to keep my carbs below 50g and the silk and protein take up about 50% of that 50g. If you want a good breakfast option try the Atkins morning shakes they have 2g carbs and 10g protein. And once you get close to reapplying replace 1 or 2 meals completely with quality protein shakes. Good luck to you. Hope to slide over on the losers bench when you get here!

Just a thought . . . The Silk &Protein is rather high in sugar and carbs and only has 5 grams of Protein. You might have better luck doing a low sugar high protein shake. I love the Silk F&P but gave it to my high metabolism husband because of the nutritional value.

I just was introduced to a protein shake called Vi-Shape! It's a weight management shake. Very tasty. Look it up Vi-Shape 90 day challenge.

If anyone is interested I would be happy to send more info. The company is called Visalus Sciences. It's a soy based shake. Tanyavian@hotmail.com

You guys all give great advice! I did look at the carb content and so now am off that and give to my little guy for breakfast and I did buy some whey vanilla and chocolate protein shakes..I'm not eating at night, going to look into the chair yoga too! I am drinking lots of water and will continue to do so..I eat dinner and make it low carb and then nothing after that..mind you, I have slipped..I get so hungry at night. Is it okay to do a protein shake at night too? and is soy better than whey? I wasn't sure. I know Whey gets into your system faster than Soy.
