Jimmy

I'm having my surgery on Good Friday 4/6 and hope to be home before Easter Sunday.

I feel pretty ready. I was in the Kaiser Options program for 12 weeks which was basically all done in the Fall of last year. It's education classes with a nutritionist and a behavioral specialist. I was cleared for surgery in January but selected April due to family commitments and work - and now I am just around the corner.

Bought my chewable Vitamins, started buying some of the items I am going to need once I get sleeved, Soups and Protein shakes.

I'm not afraid of the procedure itself - just hoping that all goes well and that I don't run into any complications.

How about you? What are you feeling?

It's a journey, for sure.

Katie

I am April 13th. I get moments of being scared every now and then but know this will make me much healthier.

For now I have just been trying focus on buying stuff I will need after surgery - protien singles and samples and items for packing a small bag of must haves for the surgery center.

I really think the biggest obsticles for me will be healing from the surgery and losing 125-135#s. I guess we will see come April 13th.

Glad to see there see there are other April people - best of luck to everyone on their surgeries!!!

My surgery is April 11!!! I'm really excited and can't wait to get it over with but I'm getting more and more anxious as I read people's threads on here at least once a day I'm thinking is this the right thing for me? Am I just being lazy by not doing it on my own ? Being private pay I'm nervous about any complications and having to stay any additional nights. That being said I know that once I get this done I will be the type to do it 100% and will be successful . I'm naturally an anxious person so I know I'm overthinking this alot so if Any one has any positive advice bring it on anything to ease my anxiety !!!!

I'm scheduled for April 9th.... I'm trying to get ready. Trying not to drag my heels as this is my last week of real eating..AKA food funerals..saying goodbye to the bad stuff like Cheesecake Factory's Carbonara ....and all you can eat crablegs :( I get my moments when I get a little scared. Hoping that I don't do this and still not lose weight like I heard some bloggers say. Since it's irreversable. Next monday I start my all liquid 2 week pre-surgery diet. I hope I don't fail. I'm afriad I'm going to get so hungry and feel like crap because I'm going thru caffiene withdrawal and try to work those two weeks feeling hungry and headachy.

April 9th surgery date here. Haven't really been scared or second guessing myself, just anxious to get it DONE! I am concerned that I won't be dedicated to exercise like so many people on this site. I've never liked exercise, I'm one of those goofs who doesn't feel energized from working out, just tired and cranky. In addition, I'm recovering from a terrible flare-up of an old back injury and it will be after surgery before I can even take a long walk.

Boy oh boy, I am SO ready to not have my unhappiness about how I look take up so much space in my thoughts! I feel like this is my chance to wipe the slate clean and start fresh.

Personally im completely ready mentally, emotionally & physically. i justt need to start buying all of the post-surgery ingredients to ease my transition into the next stage from liquid, to semi-liquids then finally solids.

don't worry though, katie, you have to stay positive all the way through. no negative thoughts. the surgery will go fine!

its okay to feel scared, its only natural after all. Youre hardest critic will always be yourself, so your gonna have to push yourself harder than the surgeons pushing you. because at the end of the day your making this beautiful healthy lifestyle change for your well-being.

food addiction is the reason why we are all here in the first place, so dont stress it because you already made a huge decision to break that addiction and free yourself from its cause and effects

no the biggest obstacle for you was deciding to go through with the surgery. Once you made that commitment you broke all mental barriers preventing you from achieving it. like they always say the first step is always the harddest

no youre not being lazy. there is NOTHING wrong with receiving assistance and that is exactly what the sleeve is. people may say youre cheating and what not, but look at this way: when a student is failing a class they look for a tutor to assist them and there is nothing wrong with that, people actually encourage this behavior. Well he sleeve is the SAME exact thing. Dont doubt yourself, ever. stay focus and do whats best for YOU

That's one of the biggest misconception about getting sleeved, people start to believe that they will no longer enjoy the food that they love, which is NOT true. You will be able to enjoy they foods but they will be in moderation. instead of focusing so much on eating the food, after the surgery you will just be happy tasting it. which is a great thing because you will slowly be able to break those bad eating habits and form newer more solidified ones that will make this journey an exciting one.

Dont worry hunger pains will subside once you start to feel the restriction. at the end of the day TRUST THE SLEEVE, it will not steer you wrong

We are in the same boat. I, too, am anxious about getting it done and beginning my journey to a better life. One thing i can tell you though is that NOONE before the sleeved ENJOYED exercising lol. Well i cant say noone but many of us never liked it, but when you start to notice your results you will begin to enjoy and even become addicted to it in the process. Once you start exercising regularly missing a day or two will give you fitness withdrawal lol

I am scheduled for April 11. I am scared/nervous about the 2 week Optifast pre-op diet, afraid of failing. I am also terrified of complications. I am a mother of 4 very active girls and need to be there as they grow! Its really a double edged sword because w/o the surgery I may not be there to watch them grow. I am confident in my surgeon so I am trying to stay positive and not let my natural paranoid, over analytical self take over. I am looking forward to watching myself and all the other April sleevers succeed in our journeys!!!! :-)

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
