Hi everyone! I am a new member to the site and my surgery is scheduled for this Monday March the 12. I am excited but also nervous about the weeks to come. My main goal after the surgery is to get to a healthy weight where I can play with my beautiful 4 year old daughter without getting tired quickly. I started at 261 and I am 5 foot 4 inches tall. I have lost ten lbs during my two week pre-op liquid diet so currently at 251. I am very excited to have found this site before my surgery!!!!!!

Very glad you have made your decision, and are so close to your surgery date. AS you get closer it's going to be very emotional! Be prepared and do not hesitate to get on here and say "help"!

Have you been to the mentors forumn?

Thanks everyone for the warm welcome. Pookey I have not been to the mentors forum yet but I think I will check it out right now. I am super emotional, anxious and scared about Monday so maybe that will help calm me down. Thanks!

So tomorrow is the day! I am trying to get things ready for a two night hospital stay. What do you guys recommend taking? Do I need to take my own liquids and protein...any lose fitting clothes etc?

I would say no to the Protein, yes to the loose clothes. I took too much. I did use gas x, chap stick and my phone. Best wishes so exciting.

Thanks everyone for being so kind and helping through the surgery! I am currently at 235 down from 261 prior to pre-op diet and I am 10 days post op. I am struggling with the liquid diet and really want to take a bite of solid food. I also stopped smoking two weeks prior to surgery and now I am having a really hard time and want one soooo bad. I keep telling myself that if I am going to get healthy I am going to get healthy ALL the way so no smoking! Any suggestions on good food for the "mushy, applesause consistency" stage... I will be moving on to that in four days!

I am reallg getting frustrated. I gained back two lbs and have been stalled at 237 for over a week! I didnt know a stall would happen so soon after surgery and im really discouraged because i read that others are dropping lbs really quickly. My doctor said that he expects me to lose 1/2lb to 1 lb a day for the next thirty days.... Any suggestions?

Hi Pixie, that .5 - 1 Lb per day is an average. This doesn't actually mean you will lose weight every single day. It means some days you will lose, some you won't - but ultimately it will seem like you're losing about 1 Lb per day.

From what I've read of your #'s it actually sounds like you are ahead of the average. You were 261 just before you started your pre-op diet. I'm not sure how long you were on your diet but today you weigh 237. That's a loss of 24 Lbs, and you are 10 days post op.

Sounds good to me.

Pixie don't get discouraged! I'm 5 weeks post op and lost 12 lbs. I like you feel disappointed but trust that with time and patience I'll get there. It is not as easy or as fast as I thought but C'mon, we are not eating like before therefore our bodies should follow!!!

I have lost two lbs since last posting. Starting fo feel better mentally about this but still having doubts about why I did this. I have startex walking and I am doing about two miles a day. I feel good about that since I am almost four weeks out of surgery. I ate a bite of turkey and a bite of ham today. I am still technically on my pureed mushy stage but I chewed it really well and had no problems! That and a deviled egg made me feel better about being at the two family Easter feast! Happy Easter everyone!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
