Does Anyone Watch Man Vs. Food?

Recommended Posts

I used to love this show. I thought Adam Richman was just a really entertaining guy and thought his challenges were fun to watch. I gotta say...I watched it...well tried to watch it...last night and it really made me feel like I was going to throw up just watching him stuff this HUGE plate of nachos in his mouth. I know I keep saying it, but little changes in my perspective of food really amaze me.

Any other moments like this for anyone else??

I saw this and I HAD to comment! Man VS. food is one of thte things that really began to impact me on this last pre-op sleeve round of weight loss. The first season it was OK - but as he gained weight he began to change - he sounded breathy and sweated alot and looked sooo pasty while he shoveled food into his craw - he would cause me to loose my apetite! He also made me very aware of what the weight was doing to me.

Hubby still loves it and I just cuddle in his lap and read a book, lol.

Pookey...I noticed his weight gain too and especially the sweaty, pasty part. It was amazing. I was reading an interview with Anthony Bourdain and he was even amazed at what Adam was doing. He also mentioned that the travel network made Adam sign all these health wavers because he was obviously going to be unhealthy from it. Have you noticed he isn't doing it anymore and now just 'coaching' others on how to beat an eating challenge?

I watched it every so often. To me the point of the show is really showing the over indulgence we have in american society. He does eat some messed up stuff. He must have a ducolax lifetime supply.

I am more of an andrew zimmerman/anthony bourdain type of person. In fact I am watching tony right now in singapore lol

LOL. I was just thinking last night that watching my husband and boys eat is disgusting sometimes now, and they are not even close to being overweight, but the volume of food that they can eat! What is really gross is that I use to match them bite for bite. Sorry I didn't mean to hijack your post it just made me think of that. :)

I used to watch that show occassionally. I try not to watch any shows that deal with food prep or restaurants (with the major exception of Top Chef) now because they tend to make me feel like snacking/cheating. Poor, Adam. i had no idea he was having so many problems. I hope he finds his way to good health.

I find myself being hyper critical of everyones eating now, but I was critical before. I'd see a skinny person stuff their face with blatantly unhealthy food and think "God, if I ate like that I'd be twice the size I am now!"

I went to Animal Kingdom a few weeks ago and as I was waiting with my son for my friend to get off a ride I saw an obese mother with three obviously unhealthy children. She had 2 McDonalds bags of food she was feeding them, and when the babies finished their burgers (the eldest ate TWO) she gave them oreo Cookies... I wanted to grab the food out of their hands and hand them some of my carrot sticks!

It's like passing an accident on the road, you don't want to see it but you just can't turn your eyes away.

I've always had that reaction to the show!!!

I watch it like a trainwreck if I can stomach it. It's like OMG HE ATE THAT OMG OMG WHY WHY WHY!

I literally get sick to my stomach. I'm like agggh stop!

Weirdest thing for me. I used to watch that show and Iron chef once in a blue moon when my parents had it on. I thought it was entertaining. But now that I am not eating all that unhealthy crap I am addicted to the food network and food shows... Wish I knew why since I won't ever eat the stuff lol... But even though I love most of the food shows, for the life of me I can't watch man vs food anymore. It makes me nauseous seeing him eat the stuff he eats. Its like watching Supersize Me on steroids.

I still enjoy watching cooking programs (I love to cook for my family) but I agree, watching MVF would probably disgust me now. We got rid of cable a while back so I don't have a chance to watch much food TV, but I do like to watch the cooking shows on PBS. I am typically grossed out watching my stepson eat (he's 15) - the volume he eats and the pace at which he shovels food in his mouth is astounding. It hurts my sleevie just to watch!

I watch my family an dander were they put all that food. Now I am like a food critic volume and what people makes me sick. Just to thin of the fried Chinese food in sugar sauce we eat has not nutritional value. I am now much more aware of bad foods.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
