Pre Op Diet For Dr. Garcia

Recommended Posts

Can anyone tell me what the pre op diet for Dr Garcia is? The paper information I have says 7-14 days and the email I received says 3-4 weeks? Also, do I need to do the laxative part?

I think it depends on your BMI. The higher the BMI the longer the pre-op diet. My daughter had a low BMI and she did 3 days Clear Liquids before surgery and she did the laxative 2 days prior. Who's your coordinator? They should be able to tell you for sure. We got an info packet from Alma the coordinator at Ready 4 a Change.< /p>

Great! No problems and recovered quickly. She is sticking to the diet they outlined for her and today is 4 weeks post-op. She had some fatigue in the beginning, but that was to be expected and went back to work in retail management 2 weeks after surgery. She's down from a 18-20 to size 12-14. She did lose 20 lbs before surgery so she could get in the groove of the eating lifestyle. We are both happy we had this done. We can eat what we want just a whole lot less of it and no more piggin out!

Good luck with your upcomming surgery. Is Dr. Garcia your doctor? If so, you'll love him and the staff at Hospital MI Doctor. We had a wonderful experience with them all.

hi optima,

i was told i could do 5 days of the 7 day diet due to my BMI of 44.

here was my diet:

LIQUIDS ONLY

- This consists of broth, sugar-free Jell-O, sugar free or sweetened with aspartame, Yogurt (none with chunks of fruit in it), sugar-free juice (if juice is in its own natural juices, make sure that it is still low in carbohydrates), clear liquids, Boost, Slim-Fast or any low-carb Meal Replacement drink. No sodas & NO SOLIDS.

START THIS PHASE 3 DAYS BEFORE SURGERY:

Take a laxative (any laxative that you usually use).

1 adult dosage of your laxative of choice – 1 time – 3 days before surgery.

Drink only clear liquids after that. (Broths, sugar-free Juices you can see through, etc.)

NO SOLIDS of any kind.

PLEASE NOTE: A higher BMI requires a liquid diet 14 days prior to surgery.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
