Shell. You might need a few more days off. I'd suggest at least 2 weeks off of work. Glad to hear surgery went well.

I went in for my second fill today. This time was with the doc's pa. I'm not sure if I care for him. It hurt more when he did the fill and I had to talk him into putting in a .5 cc fill. He was happy with my 6 pound weight loss this month. Had to keep explaining to him that it was me and my control that had me loosing not the band. I have yet to feel really any restriction. I guess I have 4.5cc in right now but some of that is what liquid is in the tubing leading up to the port. Have my first mushy meal in a couple hours then later after that will have reg meal and hopefully will see if have some restriction.

fleminld, I don't have any more leave but if I have to take more time off I will. I do feel better each day though. I changed into some jeans today and went out for a walk. It was good to get out, but I couldn't sit in my jeans comfortably so I had to change back into sweats as soon as I got back.

I hope your 2nd fill is working for you. It sounds like you are doing great though considering you don't feel any restriction.

Well been a few days of eating regular food since my fill. I dont feel any different. I need to get off my but and get myself into the gym at least 1 of my days off. I still walk my dog for an hour 5 days a week, but need to add to my exercise. It just seems like something always happens on my days off to prevent me from going.

anyone have any suggestions for some quick good filling meals? I love the wendy's chilli, but to feel satisfied and ok hunger wise for 4 hours i have to eat the large. I am a graveyard worker, live alone so its sometimes a pain to cook when its just for me.

Shellshock...

I had port pain ofr quite some time after my banding. They stitch it to the muscle, so it takes some time for it to settle in and "root" itself. I had to wear softer waistbands for months. Try different pants too, it made a big difference when I wore pants that sat lower so that the preasure wasn't on my port when I sat. Hang in there, just when you think it will hurt forever you'll realize you've gone all day an not noticed it.

fleminld...

I get the side salad with my small chili from Wendy's, fills me up and gives a little more "chew satifaction" to the meal without a lot of extra calories...just watch the dressing, amazing how much oil is in salad dressings. I love cottage cheese, sometimes top it with pepper or french/catalina (lite) dressing...cause I like it savory (eating some right now). I find "Lean Cuisine" type meals are great, and I try to keep to the ones that are protien & vegetable rather than the ones with a large starch (carb) serving.

PS...it took me 4 fills to feel restriction...hang in there!

Oh ya...speaking of fills. I went for my follow-up on Gallbladder test (which was fine...cool!) and also to see if my last fill stuck...I seem to have a leak. There was nothing in my band (2nd time) so we were pretty sure I have a leak. But...he put me back to 3.0 and I am feeling some restriction for the first time since July! Maybe my prayers have been answered and I won't have to have surgery again to replace a leaky port!!! Never would have thougth I'd be so happy to feel that pain in my chest again!

Have you tried the Lean Cuisines?? They're pretty good. I know some of the single gals like to use them.. fettuccine, for one, then add some shrimp or scallops to it for more Protein. Make a big pot of something on your day off. Then you have leftovers for your work days. I used to work some grave yard shifts (RN). It's the pits! Hard to get on a reasonable sleep/eat/play schedule when working that shift!

my doc told me to stay away from the lean cuisene meals, that most arent the type of food i should be eating. Im told no Pasta, bread, rice.(for the first time in my life i am missing eating sandwiches). I have tried them, but they dont seem to fill me up, usually still hungry afterwards. I had heard alot of people couldnt eat lettuce in salads so hadnt tried one yet. Think i will try my chilli and salad mix in next couple days see how it goes. i have been liking the chicken fajita mix they sell fresh in the safeway meat department. I like the spice on it. I just eat it as it is chicken and peppers/onions.

I found those citrate peite Calcium pills, going to give them a try today. they are def smaller than the other, but still look somewhat big.

cindy you still out there? how are you doing? healing up ok?

fleminld...

Alot of the lean cuisine are Pasta and rice, but I choose the ones that are meat and veggie, I'm having Turkey and gr Beans for lunch today. Try the salad, I've enjoyed salad all along...makes a great "filler" as opposed to the starches. Gives you something to crunch, and is great nutrition. Just beware of the oily dressings, there are some really good low-fat/fat-free ones out there...makes a salad nearly a "free food", eat as much as you want.

I find if I'm having trouble getting something down, alternating textures (bite of protien, bite of salad...) helps things go down better.

When you're hungry drink a bottle of Water before you eat, helps you get that water in and sometimes we mistake thirst for hunger.

My mother in law said her port was sore too for a bit. I hope to have surgery in Nov. I have to complete a 3 month stint with my doctor for insurnace to approve. I'm hoping for Nov. 25th. My daughter (22) will have heres in Jan. after her 3 months is up. I'm so excited for both of us.

Congrats on the weightloss so far. I've been on weight watchers and have lost 26 pounds so far. But need another 130 to be at the right size.

i drink Water all night long at work. drink 24 oz between each meal and wait 60-90 mins after eating to drink. I am just trying to be pacient and not over eat to much. At the end of the month i get to see the surgen and hopefully he will give me a decent fill. I havent had any problem eating anything except once with really dry meat that was to tough to chew.

I went up to leavenworth today with my dad. I forgot how long it takes to drive up there. We stopped at the fruit stand, i love the apples and asian pears we get up there. I now have enough of both to last me forever. Put them out in the garage and they will hold up for long time. Picked up some colby cheese sticks at the store, so can have apple and cheese as a meal or snack now. I havent been getting enough fruit or Fiber in my diet and have to take way to much fiber supplements. My body was never good at the low carb all meat diets. it was a fun day.

Hi Fleminld sorry I have not been on in awhile I have not been feeling to good, on Tues I had some meat but I think it may have got stuck anyhow I threw up and i have not felt well since. I am having a real hard time swallowing. Talked to Dr.Bock himself he said he thinks that I am just really swollen from being sick so go back to liquids for yesterday and back to cottage cheese and applesauce stuff for today. But everytime I swallow it hurts going down so I am not sure what to do. I hope I didn't mess something up by being sick

try some sugar free popsicles. your throute sounds like it is raw. partly from being sick and part from the tube in your throute during surgery? i had to suck on popsicles on and off all day first couple weeks for my throute. Your just starting on solids, I would take it really slow just one meal a day to start and make sure it is moist.

I hope you start feeling better soon.

I tried the sf popsicles and that was awesome. Dr.Bock decided that I had a flu and thats what had me down for past 3 days, I was scared that I had damaged or slipped my band after throwing up but he says he thinks everything is fine. I was able to eat some flakey fish today w/o that aweful chest pain he also said I may not get a fill that it seems as though I am having restriction w/o one guess time will tell I am down 10 lbs before surgery and 14 since surgery

Thanks so much for your suggestion on popsicles

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
