Hi Nw banders. I am getting banded on the 23rd of May and will start my liquids this Sunday. Dr. Fox at SWLC in Tacoma will be doing mine. Nice to meet some local people :)

Hi Startin'Over - Welcome! We have the same Doctor. I was banded 4/27/07. I'm two weeks out today. Good Luck and keep us updated!:)

So this afternoon I did my pre-op phone appointment, forked over the moolah, and am scheduled for the morning of the 17th. I have had a couple moments of major doubt, but when I called to push the date, it would be over a month from now before I could get in. I figure when I call to reschedule my hair appointments like that, I end up having to wait and then end up wimping out and head to Great Clips and get the whack job and regret not keeping my first appointment! Then I have to wait for it to grow again. I don't need to have ME growing anymore in the mean time, so I don't think another round of Weight Watchers would be the answer. Why postpone the inevitable, right? I know this is the decision for me and just need to get on with it. From the sound of (pretty much) everyone else if I can get through the first few weeks, the weight loss is worth it! How else am I going to get to Disneyland?

So I still have my 2 Pepsi's and have lost 5 of the 10 pounds requested. I am on my way. Cheers!

Thanks to the gals (Wendy/Melissa/Megan) at NWWLS for helping me climb back off the ledge! No pressure, they just listened to my fears and shared their own experiences. It was very reassuring!

It was fun walking today, what a great break in the day! So great to chat and laugh with people who really get where you're at. Love to have more join us.

Thanks Merrillee for answering the neverending questions. Takes alot of the doubt away when the unknown isn't so unknown.

THanks for the encouragement!

I had trouble with the ticker too. I Swear I did the same thing about 5 times before it did show up correctly! I am going to attempt to update mine. We'll see how it goes!

SO I managed to mess it up and this time it only took 3 tries to get the ticker in there. I think the initial instructions said to highlight and copy all the stuff from to . Mine works if I do not include the notations or url or whatever. I was just getting an address to post at first too. Maybe it will work now? I used the window of the bbCode.

Went to a dinner at The Lobster shop tonight paid for by the school as a thankyou to the auction committee members. I felt like I had to eat in front of all those people or I would be asked why I wasn't eating, so I ate about 2-3 small bites of each thing. Hope it didn't screw up anything to much. I ate like I had a band on already and I was plenty full. . . . or at least how I supposed I would eat if I had my band already. The stupid thing is at the end of the night this one person who knew I was getting the band came up to me and said (in a very loud voice) . . . Now when is your surgery for lap band? OMG! all that food for nothing!! I was really wanting to crawl in a hole but instead I had to stand there and answer a bunch of questions from people who wanted to know about the surgery. I was wishing I had kept this thing a total secret!! Why do other people think they have the right to blurt out my business?

Okay, rant over. . . .back to liquids I go.

Is there a support group for NWWLS bariatric surgery patients? I am tentatively getting banded at st. francis but live north of seattle

Okay, I am editing this post! I read through this ENTIRE thread, and found several support groups through yahoo and different surgery centers. I did my intake with Dr. Hirai on the 18th of april, and my endoscopy is scheduled for next friday. My insurance gave me pre-authorization today, but after hearing all the great stuff about NWWLS (which is very close to my house) I'm wondering if I should switch and stay closer. I chose st. francis because it s a center of excellence according to the American Society for Bariatric Surgery. I like that Dr. Oh is very strict though, I believe that people who stick to stricter liquid diets at the beginning experience better results, less slippage, erosion, and more weight loss long term.

HI EVERYONE!!!!

Hello Girlfriends!!!!!! Had a fabulous time with Wendy and Sue yesterday! Can't wait to meet up again! Wanna come to a jewelry party?

Evilah, I emailed you and answered your questions.....It's all good. And all worth it!!!!! I promise!!!

Pinenut.....you are sooo funny. I do the same thing with my hair! Except I chop it myself! And a couple of my dearest girlfriends are beauticians.....I think I'm finally getting more mature about it and letting them do their thing...I mean how many years can those girlfriends ball me out for chopping my own hair without finally learning to just let them take care of it to begin with.....LOL

MY DEAR HUSBAND finally got home last nite after 3 weeks gone working(during the week...then he comes home for weekends and sleeps!) He's a business consultant for automotive shops. He'll be home all this week. I don't like him being gone so much. We're actually good friends, married for almost 26 years! He was going to have our daughter go with him to do some bookkeeping setup for the next shop.....BUT I was his bookkeeper at the shop we used to own and I told him I'm going to brush up on my Quickbooks and go with him.....Not Becca. (Sorry baby, but I miss being with your dad.) He thought that was a fabulous idea. I won't be going on all trips, just the ones that need bookkeeping assistance. And we're going to take one of the dogs.....Buttercup.....our dearest little chihuahua baby. Don't know for sure if I'm going to shut down the dog clothing business.....Becca could probably run that.....she gets ALL the money from it anyway.

Am I nuts? I don't know. Sorry to go so OOFFFF topic. We're going out to coffee now........

Hi Everyone,

I was two weeks past surgery yesterday!! So that means only two more weeks of clear liquids! All my steri strips are off (with some help) and I must of had a reaction to those as well since underneath them it was red and bumpy and now that they have been off about 24 hrs it's not so itchy.

Wendy - I still don't really feel like myself. Maybe it's the liquid diet. Physically I'm feeling so much better each day but I still have pain where the port is and right above my belly button. It's pretty sore by the end of the day. I worked all week though and made it through. I think because my Doctor does that stitch to prevent a hernia is what the pain is beside the port. Also, don't worry about what you ate; you've been doing so well and the goal is to loose weight before surgery to shrink your liver and that is what you've done.

Pinenut - You should just keep your date. It's so hard to make this decision!!! I just wanted to get it over with. I think you'll be glad when it's over. No more second guessing yourself.

And welcom Elivah, I would just do all your research and make your decision. I think both Dr Oh and NWLLS are highly reguarded. But your right Dr Oh does have a strict liquid diet after the surgery and so does my doctor. Mine is one month Clear Liquids w/3 - 30 gram Protein Shakes per day plus 4 childrens chewable vitamins and 1500 mg Calcium plus 2-3 quarts of Water. The water is the hardest for me to get in!

Mer - Have fun traveling w/your hubby, sounds like fun!

Well have a great Saturday everyone, I'm off to costco to get stuff for Mother's Day. We're having a brunch at my house.... I wonder if anyone will want to trade my Protein Shake? ?? Hah!

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket. I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to. And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
