Seeking Buddies 5'2" & Under

Recommended Posts

I only had to do a one day preop diet, but I did have to lose 20lbs before even that. and for Protein, there are lots of places you can get samples. Start tasting now, but be prepared for your tastes to change. I don't want to be a bummer, but I had my faves that I'd been using for years before, and now I hate them. Even at 7 weeks I still hate them all. bletch. I can't stand the smell or the over sweet taste and I've never liked artificial sugars. It was hard, but I seem to be surviving! ;) Just taste a lot now. I wish I would have had more samples on hand.

Hey guys! Been looking for this! I'm 5' tall! I was doing really well on my peo-op. But last night I had hibatchi...i'm so angry with myself!! I am sched for May 5th. So I have about 3 more weeks to go. It seems the closer I am getting the more anxious I am getting, which is = my emotional eating. I'm not worried about the surg itself, I guess its just starting a "new" life? Ive had 3 different cancers since I was 27 (now 42). So, I am really going ahead with this to be a healthier person!! :D Back on the Protein Shake wagon thismorning!!!!

You can do it! U will do great and just try your best to stick to the pre op diet. I know I didn't do it perfectly either. But now at 10 weeks out I feel good. I'm losing slowly but losing none the less! I also had oral cancer 6 yrs ago. So I know what you mean about gettjg healthy! I'm also 42!

I am 5 ft 1, 232, 40 and won't have surgery until after my 6 month supervised diet. Last date is either july or august. Not sure if they want 6 visits or 6 months after the first visit. Right now I am not scared. Everytime I eat I think about what will be different after surgery. I read TONS every day and have started a notebook with all the info I want to remember later (recipes, suggestions, a weight graph, my lab work etc). I believe I will be successful at losing (finally) and have a goal for an average of 2lbs per week. I look forward to being able to enjoy some of my old faves tweaked and in wayyyy smaller portions. I am VERY excited!!

Hi I am 4'10" and am 8 months post op. I have lost 40 lbs and have 10 more to go to get to the surgeon's goal; 20 to get to my personal goal. I agree being short means you do lose slower. My doctor said this is normal for someone my size. I am always wanting the weight to come off faster but I look at where I was 8 months ago and I know how far I've come, so I don't get upset, I am just anxious to reach my goal. I know if I hadn't had this surgery, I would most likely be even heavier than I was before, and my health could not take that. I have sleep apnea, high blood pressure, arthritis in my knees and spinal stenosis problems ( I had spinal surgery in 2008) and was heading for diabeties and various other co morbid condtions. Thank God for my sleeve it is my lifesaver. I love this site and look forward to continuing to follow everyone's progress..Keep up the great work you are all doing.

I'm 5'1" and some change and at goal. I might have something to add here if anyone has questions.

I had surgery at 242 pounds and a very snug 18/20 and am now maintaining between 133-137 pretty easily. Most of my clothes are size 6 or small. I had hoped for a smaller goal weight, actually, but it's just not going to happen. I'll need plastics eventually and that will easily take that last ten pounds off for me. It's not that I really feel I need to lose more weight, either, it's just that the BMI chart really sucks and my doctor still kinda nags about me being so close to the overweight line.

Anyway, hello to everyone! It seems like the majority of the folks here were just recently sleeved or are awaiting surgery.

Edited to add pictures. Everyone loves pictures, right?

Hey everyone, I haven't updated the ticker but I'm 44 lbs down! Problem I'm having is that I'm still losing a lot of hair....I'm taking a prenatal and Biotin intermittently with time for it to absorb in between. I'm pretty sure I'm eating enough Protein but is anyone else having this problem because if it continues I will lose all my hair.< /p>

So glad to hear everything went great for you :) You look fabulous!! My question to you is that you have lost so much, in what amount of time? and also I noticed that you don't have the "wings" so to speak under your arms from the weight loss...how are you keeping your skin so tight? Thanks for your time!

Are you still there Dea? I found a pretty good Protein Powder with stevia. It's made by Metagenics , which is medical food headed. It's a little pricey, but you might want to check it out. I wont use artificial.

I am so excited, my date has been set for 5/30/12. I am looking forward to this part of my journey beginning (although I bet I don't say this when I wake from surgery).

I had my psych visit on May 14, 2012 and it went well. I'm now waiting on them to send the report to my surgeons office, hopefully in the next week or so I should hear something. I ready to get this done as I'm a little nervous but excited too.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
