4th Day Post--op And Can't Get Enough Water

Recommended Posts

I am 4 days post op. I get to start full liquids today. However, I am having a hard time getting the Water to go down. I take sips and it hurts. I constantly have this fullness feeling or pressure in my chest. It kind of feels like indigestion. I thought it was from the gas they pumped into me. I have been taking gas-x but doesn't really seem to be working. I am also having diarehha. I don't know if this is all normal or if I'm doing something wrong. I don't want to call my doc on new year's day if it's normal. I have my 1st post op appt on Wed. I feel like I can wait til then, but am unsure. Anyone have any ideas if this is normal?

This is all normal. Take smaller sips (I mean tiny) and wait longer between sips and see if that helps the pressure feeling. Your stomach is swollen and raw. Liquids in, liquids out, too--again, normal. You are doing fine. Keep sipping, walking, and resting.

If you are really concerned (I would, bc diarrhea causes dehydration), I would call your doc's office and the doc covering for the holiday can talk to you. Dehydration is a real serious matter. Take care of yourself, you deserve it. Happy New Year! ;)

Melissa: I found that warmth on my abdomin helped a lot regarding gas (and it just felt good). A heating pad if you have one ... or put a damp towel in a Ziploc and microwave for a few seconds.

Do other liquids besides Water go down ok? If so, drink what works - any liquids count for your Fluid intake. I found warm liquids worked best for me - Decaf coffee/tea, broth, hot chocolate, etc. I agree the diarrhea is normal at this stage.

.

I agree! I couldn't drink Water because it was making me sick. I had to mix it with a little juice to change the ph balance of it. I started taking prilosec and now I can drink more regular water but you may need to take a ppi to help.

This is all normal, sounds very much like my day number 4. sip sip sip walk walk walk. room temp crystal light pink lemonade worked for me, every day will get better. I am two weeks out today and am getting 32oz Water in a day, and getting 2 oz mushies in a meal. I never thought it was gonna happen but every day it gets better. I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
