Oh -- wanted to add that calories in/calories out is definitely how it works. BUT the same amount of calories don't apply to everyone. For some people, fewer calories in still amounts to weight maintenance or even gain, whereas others can eat far more calories and still lose. So the calories in/calories out equation has to be customised for what works for your body, and I think you learn it by trial and error and just getting a feel for things over time. I still lose at 1500 cals even if I'm not exercising (probably because I walk all over the place? I don't think my metabolism is anything great, so that must be it), but I know some people stall at that level, whereas others will lose at 1800 or 2000+ still.

Okay, I'm just catching up on all the new posts, lol. I have always been a snacker, my plan has been three meals and three Snacks all along, and I doubt that will ever change. It's the only way I can get in all my calories for the day. I do have mostly high-protein snacks (Quest bars are my current passion, but I also eat cheese, yogurt or boiled eggs for snacks) and carbs are not really a major temptation issue for me. That said, I don't really have too many bad snacky items in my house, aside from a few things my husband likes, so I can't be that bad even when I want to LOL. Work doesn't have very good snacky food either, so not much temptation there. I feel very lucky in that!! The one thing I've noticed is that I eat more chocolate now than I did pre-op -- not more at one go or anything, but I have never been a chocolate fan really, and now I have to have my dark chocolate a few times a week. So I do have that as a naughty snack every day or so. :D

Hey SouthernSleever, it's time to dump the coke, and throw away those wonderful tasting cupcakes before they go on your hips or belly. I know I have to throw away the chips my hubby brought home and hasn't eaten as well as the other junk here today. It is too tempting otherwise. So I have started loving to throw away food now. If i even look at it, I gain weight. LOL. Ok let's do it everyone, let's get on track and follow the sleeve rules of Protein, veggie, etc etc. ;)

It is great to see all these posts... loving the updates.

Well done Southern sleever... sooo close now. If it is any help - which I doubt lol- but I would love to see 15? lol! You keep at it my lovely!

Diva and Co, the no snacking appeals to me... my plan since the New Year, as post op, is three meals a day. When I increased to 1200 cals I had to have a snack to make the cals up but it was 'good' cals; Protein based or nuts. So I ok with that. I think I am going to keep to the 1000 cals this week, see what happens and perhaps do one week 1000 one week 1200 to try and 'trick' my body a little? What do ya all reckon? I really hope that me watching the cals will have some benefit soon... I just feel that I need to see a reward of some kind; be in on the scale or in my clothes, I don't mind...lol

Also gonna get to the boxing gym twice this week too... and I am also considering trying the treadmill too... perhaps just for a short time to see how my leg/back holds out. With this pesky menopause nonsense, I am really aware that I need to build muscle and strength now, to help me in my later years! Oh and of course, this is the week where I promised myself that I would go back to the pool... I have penciled in Friday! Wish me luck.

I was going to add a recent photo on here, but I can't see how to att'ch one? I bought a pair of green skinny jeans and although they are a size UK16 they fit lovely... just didn't know if I should wear them in public....lol...Any advise?

Keep the updates coming in my sleeve friends! x

@coops... yes you should wear em!! You earned it lov!

Also, your routine sounds very similar to what I have planned for this 29 day February.

Refocusing on the Protein first rule, starting the first 5 days this month with my basics bootcamp. From there it's 100% sleever rules - and NOOOO carb snacks!! I will make my Snacks either nuts/seeds/peanut butter or dairy something or other. Yogurts/string cheese... etc...

My calories in will be 1200 max and my calories out will be 1,000 min. Whowww thats gonna be tough, especially for the first week, but once I shoot past that I should be G2G...

Lotsa luck y'all!

I burn most of my daily calories either with the elliptical (I work hard on it! I broke it the other day rollin too hard... LOL I need to buy a new piece so it will work right) and I also run/jog/walk - etc.

I will do my muscle toning which will now be my main focus with the kettlebells/medicine ball/Callanetics and burn the remaining 1k calories doing the stationary bike AND treadmill or elliptical.

I may throw in some cardio DVD's too if I get bored. I have a huge stack of em.

I just got a pair of size 12 Eddie Bauer jeans--they're "boyfriend" cut, so they're sort of relaxed, but they're size 12's!!!!! This is a BIG DEAL to me, the former size 26/28. I wore size 12 in high school.

On the down side, I know they're not a "true" size 12--I was in Old Navy today and tried on a pair of size 12's there, and they didn't even get up around my hips. I have a pair of "skinny" jeans, too, size 14, and they fit beautifully, but I'm really, really determined to get to those size 12's on a regular basis.

Exercise is not happening here other than work--my shortness of breath issue is kicking up something fierce. My next pulmonology appointment is in two weeks, and hopefully at that point we'll be able to schedule the cardiopulmonary exercise stress test to find out the reason behind the shortness of breath. So then we'll see what's possible from a cardio perspective.

Totally! Work those skinnies, baby!! I was wearing red skinny jeans from some youngster shop (Nafnaf, the name cracks me up) yesterday too, and I think they are pretty good. :) Love your new photo, you look so wee and cute!!

Meg -- sorry to hear about the breathing issues, I hope they find a cause and cure quickly! Congrats on the size 12s. :) (I love EB boyfriend cut...FWIW, mine were smaller than my other jeans in the same size and I could fit 10s at the same time as EB boyfriend 12s...)

Thanks, everyone, for your concern (here and with private messages). It's something that started post-op, and I haven't read about anybody else on the forum experiencing it, so I don't know if it's tied to the surgery or not. It's a strange sense of shortness of breath with exertion. I thought at first it was exercise-induced asthma (I had asthma as a child), but I don't have any coughing. Now it seems I have "air trapping" (?) but the cause of that is what's unclear. There might be slight damage to my diaphragm that causes me not to be able to push enough air out of the lungs on exhale, and that makes sense to me because I can't cough as forcefully as I used to--in which case, I'm not sure what's next. It might be that there's some sort of process happening in the small air tubes that is blocking the free flow of air... in either case, we're going to get to the bottom of it. Most of the time, I don't have any problems at all, but I'm a conductor/singer, and that deep, regular breathing and physical exertion really kicks it in. Rehearsals are pretty high-energy times, and it's not good to feel crummy at those points!

Swizzly, I'm living in my EB boyfriends now--when I'm not teaching, that's what I have on; they are the most comfortable things I have ever worn. I am THRILLED that they say "12"--and I know 12 is where a lot of petite girls start out pre-surgery, but for me, that's a huge accomplishment. My pre-surgery goal was 16 (so I could shop at "regular" stores), but I'm thinking at my current rate of loss, I might be in a comfortable 10 by summer. I'm not going to worry about it--it's not like I'm doing anything particularly special to keep losing; I'm just eating what I can eat and living, and what's going to happen is going to happen. :-) That's why I love my sleeve.....

Oh. my. god. SO WEIRD. My husband and I have been noticing for the past few months about how I can barely cough now, sounds like I'm trying to fake a lame cough. I find it soooo odd. And sometimes I have a hard time to really truly catch my breath, though I'm fine while exercising so far (touch wood). If you don't mind, I'd love if you updated when you know what's going on. It's a very weird thing and I don't know what's causing it...

Good luck!!

hi ladies! I've been out of the loop a bit... but I'll try to catch up here :-)

Diva, do you burn 1,000 calories a day? I'd love to do that. How long does it take you?

Coops, are you wearing your new skinny jeans in your profile pic? HAWT! You should definitely wear them out in public! You look soooo skinny!!!

Meg and Swizzly, wow, I'm sorry to hear about the shortness of breath issue. I hope you both get to the bottom of it. My thoughts are going out to you both, and hoping you find out some good news soon.

Me, I have been doing some tough workouts, and I think I am finally seeing some results. Now, let's hope I keep the momentum up! Maybe I can get under 185 this week. Fingers crossed! Maybe I just need to up the hours along with the intensity. Wish me luck!

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
