typo, 69.9 is correct. I was always told I had a pretty face which wasn't a compliment in my book. As the years went by I didnt want to do anything outside of work....I missed school activities and family gatherings so after this year's family vacation and having to rent a mobile machine to ride through Sea World I knew I had to do something fast or I would continue to get bigger and eventually die. In order to reach my goal weight I'll have to lose around 220 lbs. My surgery date is scheduled for 9.10.12, so pls keep me in your prayers and I'll keep u guys posted on my progress. Thx ;)

Hi. I'm 49 years old and have been a human yo-yo practically all my life. My BMI is 40 and I have high blood pressure and borderline high cholesterol. I also have depression and am hoping the weight loss can help it. I wold love to be able to stop taking high blood pressure medication and antidepressants.

I've been married to my husband for 21 years and I have a 18 (19 next month) year old son that is a sophomore in college and I have a 17 year old daughter that is a senior in high school. Two great kids!

Through the years, I've been able to lose weight doing various diets, but usually end up gaining the weight back along with some extra pounds. I am hoping and praying that the sleeve will be the last diet tool I need. I want to be skinny and sexy when I turn 50 in July, instead of being embarrassed around the people that have seen my weight go down last year to where I was a size 8/10 to just have it jump back up to a 20/22 within a year.

I enjoy walking, but not now because I am embarrassed with my neighbors seeing how fat i am when I was skinny just last summer. I want to get back to walking and joining a yoga class...just don't want to be the chunky monkey in the class.

Hopefully I can get sleeved in Dec/Jan timeframe and my husband will be encouraged to do the same since he is overweight and have life threatening health issues. My dream is to be able to travel the continent and visit all 48 states and visit Alaska (already been to Hawaii) and have my health to do enjoy it and want my husband healthy beside me....and of course to have the energy to help take care of my future grandkids.

I just joined this forum looking for information and support. My name is Shanitha. I reside in Erie PA, 32, single, childless, and a huge Pittsburgh Steelers fan, hence the s/n.

I had been thinking about WLS for a good while now. I have been obese nearly my entire life. I have a long torrid love affair with food. I definitely am an emotional eater. This did not improve any with my triple diagnosis of systemic lupus erythematosus, fibromyalgia, and pulmonary hypertension a year and a half ago. Among the many drugs I now take is Prednisone, which helped me gain 35 more lbs in the past year to a high of 318.

Since becoming ill, I have made valiant efforts to lose the weight, but nothing seems to stick. My waxing and waning depression doesn't help. My love life, as it were, has come to a grinding halt. I dread shopping for clothes. I don't want to be this person anymore.

I have my first appointment with my surgeon/staff tomorrow. I have pretty much decided on the sleeve, as I don't want my intestines rerouted and my body doesn't like foreign objects.

HI, I'm Tia. I'm 40 yrs old, married with no children. My husband is an ALS patient that I care for at home with the help of a very special nurse and a loving father. We loved to travel and spend loads of time together until his health really declined. He is on a ventilator. He's a super guy who never complains, has a super disposition, and is encouraging me to get this surgery so that when he's gone :(, I can live a healthy happy life. I am a super busy person between work and his care. This is the first thing I am doing for me in years. I love him and I love being a wife  and just wish he could enjoy the rest of my lfe with me.

My name is Melissa and I am 42 years old. I have been married for almost 21 years and have a 19 year old daughter. I have been overweight the majority of my life, like everyone else, losing some, then gaining back more. I'm not looking to be a supermodel, I just want to be able to wear clothes that don't come from the plus size section. I have no major health issues to speak of but my weight is taking its toll on my knees and back. I hope to have surgery before the holidays so that I can start working on my skinny bucket list next summer!

Hi, I am a 41 year old mother of 5 adopted children. For the last 10 years I have done treatement fostercare, from which 4 of my children were adopted through. Everyday I say I am the lucky one to have them in my life. Before that my husband and I owned and ran a dairy farm for many years. My entire adult life has been a struggle with my weight. I am one week, one day post-op. After a few days of "buyers remorse" I am feeling much better and so glad I made this discision. I knew I needed a permanent life style change to manage my weight, the sleeve was the right choice for me.

Hi;

I'm a mom and a grand mother. I dream of becoming a famous writer and so that is what I do with my day. I write short stories and poetry. I am married with two children. One of each, millionaires family.....

I applied for the VSG three years ago and was just given the okay last friday the 24 of August/12.

I have been heavy most of my life and now health issues are causing me to slow down. A bad back and cronic pain due to a fall 6 years ago.

I started to change some habits several months ago when I went to my seminar for the sleeve. So I have been trying to put things into practice before I even have the surgery. I am not perfect by any means. But I really want to be a success at this amazing tool. Having others to talk to or to even listen to their stories will be a huge encouragement to me.

Thank you for this opportunity to be here!

Jane

Hi guys, I had no idea this thread would grow so much!

So nice to meet you all and good luck to you all on your journey.

It's crazy easy at first because it feels like no matter what you do the weight literally just falls off. I've lost 113 pounds in about 9 months, the first 105 being a cake walk. I don't mind working for the things I want though so it is going to happen!

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I'm in Houston so kind of near you and had the sleeve in Dec. Down 61 lbs. Feeling better. Was definitely worth it. I hope the everything is going well for you. Update us when you can!

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

      2. Doughgurl

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜
