Noticing Excess Skin After Gastric Sleeve Surgery

Recommended Posts

I was sleeved on September 28, 2011. I have lost 60 pounds. I am beginning to notice a slight indication of excess skin. Has anyone else experienced this and if so, is there anything I can do to tighten my skin? I am noticing it around my neck and on my legs so far. Are there any products that can help with skin elasticity?

There are plenty of lotions that claim to help skin tightning but they dont work and are just out to make money...the best thing to do is cardio, lift weights and if after a year you still have bad excess skin is to get it removed.......good luck on your journey :)

Yes, I am wrinkly on my stomach, arms, thighs, calves...I am 56 and hoping that my skin still has enough elasticity to tighten up a little over time (the next year or two). If not, oh well, I'd rather be skinny and wrinkly than fat and unwrinkled. Clothes cover up most everything and in a swimsuit I wear a sarong when not in the Water. I agree that building muscle will help fill out the wrinkles. Creams and lotions don't work.

I know I am gonna have a problem with skin as well, and even though I am exercising and hoping with time it will tighten up some on it's own, I am thinking I will probably have to have it removed surgically to get rid of it all.

Please verify this but I remember reading that compression garments can reduce the amount of loose skin by keeping it from bouncing around while moving around a lot.

I wear the "gubby" or high waisted girdle thingy that also goes to a few inches above my knees. I have noticed that I am more "squishy" but I don't have any hanging or wrinkling yet.

Yes, I wear the Under Armour compression shirts when I work out/run. It is the only thing that can hold things in place. Toning and building muscle will help a bit with the extra skin, but there is no way it is going to tighten it all. I will be looking at plastic surgery after a year or so once my weight loss and my body has stabilized.

I don't believe there's anything you can do but plastic surgery. I do think it will firm up after some time but never go back to the way it would look on someone who was never obese. I've seen some people who are young or who only have about 60-80 lbs to lose. Their skin bounces back. Mine...not so much.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
