How long should someone stop prior?

As soon as possible. Smoking can also affect how well one goes through surgery and your lung capacity for oxygen afterwards. Surgery makes us more prone to pneumonia in the early post-op stages. Smoking increases that risk.

Thank you so much to the both of you!!!!

I stopped a week prior to my surgery and didn't start back up until four months after. Smoking can also slow the healing process after surgery.
