Does everyone get a Drain after Gastric Sleeve Surgery ?

Recommended Posts

No drain at all, and no sutures on the outside (as I am discovering, now that the scabs are starting to peel off). My incisions were closed with adhesive and I woke up with five regular-sized band-aids on my stomach.

Put me down as a ditto on this one, too. (except no bandaids, just the steri-strips)

I woke up with a drain & an ONQ pain pump. Both were removed when i was discharged. I stayed in hospital 2 nights. Glad to have both.

I did infact hav the JP drain, I was sleeved on 11/28/2011 and the drain remained in until yesterday 12/6/2011. The only issue I had with it was the removal of it (the most uncomfortable experience I have ever had) but its out now and I actually feel much better.

I had no drain and, like others, no sutures, just superglue! Also, I had no real incisions to speak of. I just have 4 little holes and one 1/4 inch or less incision. I had bigger scars from my gall bladder removal a few years back! and I thought they were small LOL It blows me away what can be done today in terms of technology for medical purposes. My surgery took about one hour.

It depends on the DR honestly. I didnt have one but my girlfriend did (OF COURSE TWO DIFFERENT SURGEONS) If your concerened about getting one or not you'd have to ask your surgeon really.

I have a drain. My surgery date was Mon Dec 5. I don't get the drain removed until Tues the 13!!!!! My surgeon instructed only sponge bathing while I have the drain. Not really felling it, but it is what it is.

I had surgery yesterday and yes I got one and it will stay in for a week. The doctor will remove it then. I kinda hurts when you mess with it and you can feel it when you "milk" the tube attached to it. It hurts me anyway. After surgery yesterday afternoon they had me drink this nasty blue stuff in a little apple juice and if blue came into the drain that would indicate a leak.

My surgeon wanted to use a drain, but I asked him not too due to my allergy to plastics. Really I am allergic to methyl methacrylate a polymer in the plastic that leaches out. He agreed so ... no drain for me.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
