Gastric Sleeve Surgery Postponed

Hi

i posted earlier, but i think i went to the wrong area, so here goes again. I am crying through my tears. I thought i would write my other "family" you guys

My WLS was scheduled for tuesday 12/6/11 - I have been all set, ready to go.

My dr.s office just called to say they had to postpone. Dr. was concerned all of a sudden about my preop testing, it showed some heart problems, and he wanted to operate at a different hospital, thats better equipped in case of............... he assured me i would be fine. But he wanted to cover all basis.

i'm so sad, and i had a good long cry. they said they would re-schedule asap. Son of a gun, they called me back in 1/2 hr. saying my surgery has been re-scheduled to 12/15/11 - about 9 days after it should have had my surgery.

The office was really good to re-schedule so quickly. on the bright side, now i can have a few more days to do a self imposed liquid diet. dr. doesn't require.

i have calmed down - alot, so i'll be fine. thanx for listening

I know you must be disapointed. But, I'm glad that they are being so cautious! You want this to be as smooth and risk-free as possible. Cry the tears and then get excited again! 9 days in the grand scheme of things, really isn't that long ;-)

lika, wow kudos to your Dr. for being so cautious! 9 more days to try to lose as much as you can pre-op - you're thinking good. I can tell you will do good things with your sleeve. HUGS!!!

I know it's disappointing to wait but I'm glad that your doc is playing it safe. I hope the next few days pass quickly for you. It will be over and you'll be recovering before you know it.

Good luck!

Waiting a few extra days isn't so bad. I had surgery before to install a filter because of blood clots, then surgery after my VSG to remove the filter. I was a little ticked that my doc required the filter thing until the tech told me after the removal that the filter had caught not one, but two, clots! Those clots could have killed me or left me a paralyzed vegetable. I appreciated Doctor D's caution after that!

So, be happy that your surgeon is being proactive and moving your surgery to a hospital that is better able to care for you if something did happen. As the saying goes, an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure!

We'll still save you a nice warm spot on the loser's bench! :)
