8days Post Gastric Sleeve Op

Recommended Posts

Hi im a uk sleever . After many years struggling with diets some good some bad , slimming pills i finally decided my best option was surgery. Initially i considered the lap band but after much research found many complications with the band and disapointing results . I discovered the sleeve via many usa led forums.after much research i decided the sleeve was the answer to my life long struggle at 44yrs old with a bmi of44 enough was enough. I researched a surgeon mr. Simon dexter leeds uk and booked a consultation in october 2011, he explained all my options for bariatric surgery and we both agreed the sleeve was best option. So 11th november 2011 i had my surgery. Was admited to hospital 7am taken to theatre 830am and woke up in my room by 11am. I had one iv Fluid insitu and no pain whatsoever. At 2pm i was allowed to get out off bed and start my first lap of the department absalutly no pain and no nausea. I walked on the hour every hour and it helped shift my gas. Spent a comfortable night slept well no pain and no analgesia required.next morning i was allowed sips of Water then at lunch time tomatoe Soup (heaven). my drip was discontinued and was allowed clear fluids and Soups was discharged from hospital sunday so spent 2 nites there. I am now day 8 and have been able to drink 2 litre fluid plus soup and protien shake. I can honestly say it has been nothing like the horror i thou ght it would be. I can 100% say it is the best thing i have ever done i have lost since pre op diet 1 week before surgery 34 pound i cannot belive the diffrence it has made me feel already. So i just wanted to say to all pre sleevers you will be fine

Congratulations on your decision to have sleeve surgery and your successful first week post-op! Thanks for sharing your story. And, as we like to say, welcome to the losers' bench. May your journey continue to run as smoothly as it has so far! :)

I had my surgery on the 15th. So glad you are having a good experience! I am also! I think everyone's experiences are so different. Mine has not been a walk in the park on a sunny day, but more like a walk thru the park after having done situps for a week:-)

Emotionally, I have done AWESOME! No regrets! Physically, I am just following my doctor's orders and thriving! So happy this far! I am still on my pain medicine, so I have to say that it has saved me considerable discomfort. My Gas-X & Protonix have helped too. I walk & sip & walk & sip & rest adequately as well.

Best Wishes!

Cheeky and SLL, It sounds like you are both doing great! Congrats on being sleeved and having smooth recoveries! I think it's great to post our post-op experience for others to read about, even when folks don't have the smooth sailing we three have had. :)

Good luck!! :)

Hi, i had my sleeve done at the spire Manchester hospital on the 12th Nov and my experience so far is very similar to yours. Within a few hours , I was up and about around the hospital garden, good nights sleep and then home. I was so so expecting to have more pain than I actually did. Now just lookin forwardbto the future. Nice to come across other uk members... Best wishes, Fiona

I know the feeling. Well I know I shouldn't of, but I drove 4 days after my op. I needed to get to Heysham to get my car back on the ferry home to the isle of man. I had my first proper day out yesterday, drove into town, done a bit of shopping and spent an hour in local pub.. Life sure felt normal again.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
