Diet plateau from h*ll!!

Recommended Posts

I am in month five now and I seem to be stalled out at 69lbs lost even though I started taking spinning classes and going swimming! I also feel like I can get more food in my tummy lately. Is it possible I have stretched it out? I don't know how I could have done this. I stop eating at the pleasantly full stage. Perhaps I am eating too many carbs and they are just sticking to me? Has anyone else had this happen? I have so much still to lose, it's frustrating.

Well first off, your tummy has probably healed and therefore is more relaxed. If your noticing that you can get carbs in more, then cut back and put more Protein in first. I find that if i eat a piece of chicken first, I usually don't have much room for anything else. If i do, then i'll eat the vegatables, for sure after that i'm very full. If i eat doritos or cheetos, sure i can eat the whole darn bag. . and that is because carbs just slide through, that is why they are called sliders. . fatty, yukky, sliders that make you gain weight. . . As for the stall from hell? Well try stalling for 7 months! Yup you heard right, i was stalled for 7 months! then i started to lose again, but only lost about 10 lbs and ever since then have been maintaining at my current weight. . . I'm happy about that cause at least i don't weight 350lbs anymore and that is great! Good luck!

I was going to post that nobody had a stall from hell like thinoneday! Not to diminish your personal struggle, but whew - I haven't seen a worse stall yet!

First things first when it comes to breaking a stall:

LOG YOUR food.

Do it. Religiously. Every day. Several times a day. DO IT.

It is the most important thing you can do to keep yourself accountable.

I stalled at right around the same weight for a few months and guess what? I wasn't tracking my food. And I was totally in denial about what I was eating. chips here, jelly Beans here, popcorn and soda there. No Protein. Carbs all day long. Ugh, forgive my rotten grammar, I'm starting to freak myself out!

In any case, log your food. Set a reasonable post-op goal for yourself and stick to it. Lock that carb monster away again (it took me about three days to "detox" from the cravings) and jump back on the program. You can do this. I promise that if you sit down and try to eat four ounces of steak right now you're going to find that you have restriction. The sleeve has not failed you, it's still there!

I've had to "reset" myself like this twice since surgery. I'm a slow loser to begin with (never as slow at thinoneday, poor thing) so it's always been easy to get discouraged and jump off the program. As soon as I got back on the weight melted off again. Okay...maybe that's an exaggeration. The first ten pounds or so always melt and then I go back to slow and steady.

But a loss is a loss and in the long run it doesn't matter how long it takes to get to goal, just that we do our damnedest to get there.

Do not give up. I challenge you to hold yourself accountable and make this sleeve work for you!

We're all going through the same process and you aren't alone. Come back for support (or a smack upside the head if you're doing the wrong things!) and there will always be someone here to help you along.

I vote for stall. Do write everything down. It helps us to keep on track and conscious. One day you will get on the scale and you will be lower. My longest stall was around 6+ weeks long. I added some more carbs and calories, and started losing again. Just keep with it and shake things up a little now and then, and it will come off.

You were right about the carbs! I stopped eating them, started eating more meats and BAM! I am back in the game. Only drink Water as well, except for 1 coffee in the morning and wine at the weekends! :) Got a gym membership going too so I am loving the progress now. Thanks for the replies. It's good to know these stalls are common so maybe I won't freak out so much if it happens again. I write everything down now, even a tiny mint!

Glad to hear that the good steps you are taking has broken your stall! Good job on your gym membership. I'm going to get one this week for the first time in 10 years. I think the weight just slows down around 5 months anyway, because I've noticed things have slowed dramatically for me too. BUT, the scale is still moving in the right direction.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
