I am so so so so so glad I asked this question now! It is so comforting to know I'm not the only one feeling this way. It actually gave me the courage to talk about these particular feelings with my family and I found that to be helpful. I'm blessed to be doing this all at the same time as my cousin and I never even thought to talk to her about feeling this way. But, after this weekend she and I were able to help each other so much. I wish you all the best of luck! We're going to do this, and we'll do it together if that is what it takes!

This is a very good topic. Like Longer-Life said, I think I became obsessed. This does become one of the most important things going on in your life. With all the research, planning, surgery and recovery, it is very easy to become obsessed. You have to remember, even the people that totally support you, it is still not as important or exciting to them. Noboby has come out and actually said anything but I can tell they get tired of hearing about it. I have tried in the past few weeks not to talk about it but it is very hard because this is an ongoing process. You like to share your success with your friends and loved ones but I have had to tone it down a bit.

Hi guys, another question for those who have already had their surgery.

Prior to surgery did you feel like you lost interest in other areas of your life? I still go to work, do my college courses, clean, cook and all the things you have to do. However, it all just feels like something I now have to do to kill time until December. Family members seem to be getting annoyed with me because VSG is one of the only things I want to talk about anymore.

I don't think that I'm obsessing, it just seems like every day I've learned something new and want to talk about it with my family because I am excited. Did any of you feel this way? Like the daily motions are just time killers? That all you are interested in is getting the next 41 (who's counting lol) days over with?

Thanks,

Danielle

I havent had surgery yet, but I feel the EXACT same way. I feel like im in a fog waiting for my surgery date (36 days), and not focusing on any relationships with friends (including my boyfriend, who decided this past Monday he wanted a "break" from us because I've been a b***h lately, which is probably true, lol). I've joined 3 WLS forums, and from the time i get to work until about noon im litterally glued to them. So bad. I dont wanna work, i dont wanna do anything, i just want my surgery date to be here!

Danielle,

I'm in the same boat you are in. I hope my surgery will be in January, though. I thought i was the only one feeling like this, but glad i'm not. I got about 51 days left and it's just like i'm going with the flow... wake up, go to work, come home, play with my kid, go to sleep. next day is the same thing. And my family give me frustrated looks everytime I bring it up. Don't get me wrong, they are all very supportive, but it just seems like the more I think about it, the slower the days go by. And all the clothes I use to wear, are pushed to the back of the closet because I just don't feel like getting all dressed up anymore. I just wear the same baggy clothes all the time. I don't know if I'm just getting more depressed or what, but this feeling kinda sucks.

melissa

I feel like im getting depressed too, i just keep telling myself its not that, its just that i cant wait to start my new life. Patience is not for me, lol. I try and stop counting down the days, but every time i wake up im so excited another useless day has passed which makes me one more day closer to surgery. I hate getting dressed too, i just want this old me GONE for GOOD. Im miserable with myself, and i too feel like im just going through the motions every day. Good luck, our time will be here soon!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
