Weight Loss Stahl???

Recommended Posts

I had the band removed in 2010. During the course of having the band slippage, the weight I lost was all muscle. I quickly turned into what someone on this forum referred to as a melted snowman. I lost my metabolism, what little I had, and quickly gained about 50 pounds after the removal. I got the sleeve in late June of this year. I have lost about 32 pounds pre-op weight and about 45 pounds since before the 2 week pre-op. I believe I'm losing slower than average and fear that my body is struggling more, I've heard the doctor talk to Biggest Loser contestants who had surgery and lost all their muscle & metabolism.

My question is this... Has anyone else experienced a stahl in weight loss? I'm at a stand still for about 2-3 weeks. I am maintaining about 60-80 grams of Protein a day. I exercise about every other day, when I'm lucky. I average about 900-1200 calories a day to avoid going into starvation mode. I will say that I have a tough time getting in my fluids. Will I turn the corner? Any suggestions? Much appreciated, thanks.

While you did lose muscle in rapid weight loss, you don't "lose" metabolism. There are certain Vitamins and minerals you take that convert food into energy which causes metabolism. Metabolism doesn't disappear you just need to get it out of hiding. Talk with the doctor or dietician, review your Vitamins and minerals. When is last time you had labs to test for levels.

Try going to liquid diet for a couple of days and shake things up. Metabolism will stabilize if you do the same thing and eat same calories constantly. You have to confuse the body to make it burn.

Also remember the surgery is meant to help you lose 50% of excess weight over the course of 1 to 2 years. For instance I was 233 at operation and ideal is 150. Excess is 83 so I should lose 42 pounds in a year, I have lost 36 pounds after only 2 1/2 months. So I am now only losing about 1.0 to 1.5 pounds per week from diet and exercise.

This will happen, the surgery will not make you lose weight at a constant rate, you will slow down.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
