I took before pics...

Recommended Posts

I squeezed on my favorite bikini today, the one I want to look great in by the spring, and asked hubby to take a before pic. UGH. They are so much worse than I even imagined. I better have an amazing after pic in the months ahead!!!

I know how you feel! I took my before pic and took my measurements today...surgery is scheduled for Tuesday, the 27th and it can't come fast enough!

Good luck!

I did my before pics in a bra and panties from front, side and back. I was mortified how I looked especially from the back. I took another set a month later, and it was so much better. :) I am not planning on posting those online, but it was nice to see the changes. It is a real motivator.

Yep, me too- those darn back rolls! Lol! I took my measurements at the same time as my before pics and they were more shocking than the pics blink.gif

Even though I hated seeing my before pictures, I am thrilled they are "before." I am glad I have them, and I really need them to see how far I have come because the scale and measurements don't always tell the full story. Don't be afraid of them, Mel. The pics will get better! After pics are always best when compared to the before pics. :)

I always HIGHLY encourage everyone to take before pictures. You will be *very* glad you did once your journey is well under way. The scale isn't always going to say what you want unless you're the luckiest cat on Earth. Even the inches don't always tell the whole story, for they come off very small at best. But when you do comparison photos, you actually see yourself from the onset and coming through your journey you will get lots of smiles.

Not only that, having the before shots will ALWAYS remind you of where you never want to be again.

All the best!!! This is a must do on the list!

My husband took before pics of me the night before my surgery and didn't let me look at them until I was about 6 months out and already down a LOT because he knew how depressed I'd get over them. It was quite a shock when I finally did see them.

Don't stress the before pictures too much because before you know it, you won't even look like the person in that picture. I went to my brother in law's wedding a couple weeks ago and this week my new SIL sent a link out with the wedding pics for ordering. WOW! I'm actually ordering a few (with me in them!). My absolute best friend since 8th grade told me "Honey you don't even look like you.. you look happier and WAY younger".

It really is amazing how quickly our transformations go with this surgery. I never in a million years thought 8 months out I'd be on the last stretch of my journey and CLOSE. And A New Day? LOL Girl, you better not get too attached to that favorite bikini because before you know it, it'll be falling off you. You may be holding it up around the vital bits come spring time to get your picture if you haven't tossed it entirely ;)

I suppose we should be grateful for technology, digital cameras and the fact that we don't have to torture some poor clerk at the photo center by making anyone have to develop those before pictures! blink.gif

I too will be taking before shots and keeping them all to myself for progress updates. Good luck to everyone on their journey! cool.gif

Alright, alright!! LOL I'll take my before pictures this weekend!! I know I need to take them, but I just feel bad enough looking at myself with clothes ON!!!

Disney, I don't know how you did it to not see the pics!! I wouldn't have been able to do that!

And congrats to all of you who are almost there to reach your goal! I'm just beginning and it seems like one of the longest journey's I've ever been on (including the 9 months of pregnancy). I wish I was where y'all are at right now... being able to look at pictures of myself without cringing, wearing clothes i actually look sexy in, and not feeling bad everytime I go out with friends cause guys won't even look at me. BUT, I have faith I will get there someday.

My nieces sweet 16 is next August so I want to loose as much as I can by then, so I can buy the pictures I'm in, too! lol

LOL My husband took them with my camera the night before my surgery and he just didn't let me look. After that I'd forgotten about it since I didn't pull out my camera for AWHILE. It just didn't occur to me. I guess in the back of my head I knew they were on the camera but I didn't want to look.

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL
