When did you feel good post op

Recommended Posts

I was sleeved on a Thursday and felt great on three days later on Sunday. At a little over two weeks I just had a regular meal. Hang in there everyone is unique.

I had my sleeve Monday 8/15 and came home Wednesday. I started feeling a bit normal Friday. However I still do have pain on my left side and mostly when I get up or sit down or in and out of bed. I also am still not able to bend over and pick anything up. But energy seems okay. I have been trying to take two Protein Drinks a day, one in the morning and one at night and liquids in the middle. I think that is helping with my energy. Today will be the first test, as I have a graduation party and some shopping to do. My husband will be driving though as I still take the Lortab if I have pain but I have gotten it down to 2-3 times per day. :D

The first two weeks are the most miserable. I could not get over the pain in my left side. I shuffled instead of walked, and it was frustrating trying to get fluids in. I'm 5 weeks post op now, and I FEEL AMAZING!! Pain is gone. I'm able to go shopping, work, play with my dog, go for walks, life is normal again! It all gets easier as you progress. I stressed about it the beginning of my 2nd week, thinking I should have already been feeling better. But, we all heal differently. Wishing you lots of luck!!!

I just started the Bariatric Advantage Vitamins they really aren't too bad price wise. I didn't get the post op kit but most of them come in a three month supply. If you don't want to spend that much you can go to that website and copy the ingredients and compare to other vitamins. I haven't tried the drinks.< /p>

I notice that some people refer to Protein drinks as the beverages they use right after surgery. Dr Nicholson told me I would be drinking the very watery beverages for the first 30 days after surgery which I am assuming are the Bariatric Advantage "post-op" drinks. What drinks are you using? And, how did the vitamins go down? Any problems?

I just use Protein mix with nonfat milk. Everyone a little different. Drain came out when released. Started drinking fluids three days post op and eating fair at two weeks.

How long does the drain stay in? I am having my surgery with Dr. Almanza, will I come home with the drain?

Hi there! I had my surgery this past Thursday the 18th. My drain was removed on the 19th... less than 24 hours after surgery. Not all doctors put in a drain. It doesn't hurt at all while it is in But is a very strange sensation when it is taken out :( Good luck to you! You will do great!

i didnt have a drain at all. i had 5 incisions and all of them are healing very well. they look like cat scratches really. doc used steri strips for them not stiches and im totally stoked because it doesnt look like there will be much of a scar. physically i feel really good. when i drink my food though i get pains for about 10-15 minutes after. i was able to have split pea Soup luke warm tonight though that didnt hurt after. i was very pleased with that. as for Vitamins i got the chewable gummies for kids. i dont care if i have to take more, they taste good and it doesnt hurt going down. i got the chewable Calcium too, a little chalky but not that bad and didnt hurt going down. i still take the lortab but it doesnt really make me feel loopy it just kinda helps with the pain in the tummy, which is really not bad enough to stop me from doing the stuff i want to do.

i have turned lactose intollerant now. i have never had this problem before but noticed it right away when trying dairy products. i get gassy and i have horrible tummy pain. i even feel a little nausea from it. i tried taking lactaid tonight before trying some yogurt smoothie, but it didnt seem to help at all and i ended up getting heart burn really bad afterwards as well. i think i will be laying off the dairy for a long time, at least until i can handle regular non dairy products without the tummy pains.

I was sleeved 8/16 so I am on Day 6. I had much more pain from the drain than anything else. I really think my body just hates foreign objects so I can't imagine what I would have done if I chose the band!

I have been able to get my fluids in. I sip, sip, sip. My biggest problem is the dizziness. I am slightly dizzy any time I move. That could be from a multitude of things, but my guess is the no carb, no sugar restriction. I guess my body has to adjust.

I am not in a lot of pain. I have a nagging pain in my left side, but it isn't unbearable and when it gets too bad I take liquid tylenol. I go back to work tomorrow. That is going to be rough because I am tired and dizzy. It probably doesn't help that I am running around after a 2 year old.

I did notice a significant change in my swelling from yesterday to today so maybe the Fluid and gas is finally making its way out. I have to keep remembering that everyone is different and that I had major surgery just 6 days ago.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
