Having surgery in 1 week any words of wisdom ?

Recommended Posts

Yap I do.........I was in a hurry to have it done and then the week and the day just about knocked me off my feet with anxiety. I questioned myself , thought I was crazy, what if I die........and I can tell you it was a complete waste of time to worry....the surgery is great , and you will feel great. I think we just sink ourselves with the unknown......You will do fine and you will be fine, try and put it out of your mind and just think how awesome you will feel after just a couple of days after surgery.......It is awesome and I would do it over again and wish I had done it sooner....I was a wreck the night before and Im telling you it was a waste and I got all worked up for nothing.........Everything will go so smooth and you will feel terrific after getting a new tummy  No worries mate, really !

So I am nervous .....i keep questioning myself . Any words of wisdom ?

Thank you...I am a week away also and although my worry has been in the very back of my mind, it helps to hear positive encouragement!

My strategy was to keep as busy as possible to try and keep my mind off being nervous. I had about a year between my first visit until surgery so I had a long time to be completely comfortable with my choice. I was nervous the night before, but everything turned out fine. It will be an adjustment - but that is what you are signing up for! It is amazing 6 weeks out and I feel just like I did pre surgery - except for I have more energy and I can't eat nearly as much! Hang in there, this time will pass and before you know it, you will be loving your choice!

I lost 6 pounds in the 4 days before my surgery. I was a nervous wreck and couldn't eat anything. My stomach was in knots and I contemplated backing out. When I woke up from surgery, I couldn't believe it was already over. I had myself so worked up over nothing! Honestly, you are going to be just fine. Don't let that last minute nervousness let you back out. Just try to stay calm. Read up here on the forums and get as educated as you can. When you are educated about what to expect, you feel more in control. The more in control you feel, the less worried you will be :) Use that nervous energy!! :) You will be SO glad you did it once you are on the other side! Best of luck to you!!

What helped me was instead of focusing on fear, I just kept thinking that the closer I got to my surgery...the closer I was to what I wanted most in the world: to be healthy and to be able to enjoy my life. By the time my surgery date arrived, I couldn't wait to get to the hospital...in fact we got stopped for speeding! The cop just gave us a warning but getting stopped will always be a part of my "day of surgery story". Good luck!!!

It is TOTALLY normal to have feelings of regret right after surgery. I sure did. Keep thinking that this inconvenience is temporary. No you will not be sipping for the rest of your life and you won't be in pain. You can and will enjoy food but much less. It took a while for me to master eating out. Don't bother until you are good and ready.

Everytime you get nervous, Visualize all the things you will be able to do without the weight. If you have an ipod, download some relaxation apps or listen to soft music. It really helps.

I was NOT prepared for "buyer's remorse" but I can tell you that after 7 months and 7 pounds to goal, I don't regret this for one second!!!!!!!!!

LIFE IS GREAT

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
