Hey ya'll!! My name is Brandy and I'm schedule to have my sleeve in Bryan, Texas, by Dr. John Mason. He has done my mother in law's as well as a few other people that I've known, including my husband. My surgery is scheduled for November 8th and I have just started my 2 week pre-op diet. Let me tell you, that diet is kicking my butt!! Its all Protein and no carbs. My husband, Steve, recently had his surgery (October 20). He's doing really good and actually going back to work tonight. He lost between 10-15 lbs on the pre-op diet and I can already see it. We both made the decision to do this so we can teach our children a better way of life. We currently have one little boy named Kaden. He's 20 months old and I think we've hit the terrible twos so life is interesting at my house!! Anyway, I just wanted to stop by and introduce myself. So glad that my husband directed me to this website so I can share my journey with others and learn about their's as well

Hi, Fellow Texans,

I am new to this site. I am getting sleeved next week on the 17th by Dr. David Kim. I have been on my 2 week pre-op diet and doing really well. I am an ex-bandster. I had the band surgery in 2002 and removed in 2006 when it slipped. I have regained all my weight back that I had lost and was very successful. I know that WLS works and it is a great tool to be healthy.

How did you like Dr. Kim? He is supposed to do my mother's surgery on the 17th and mine on the 28th of December. How did your surgery go and how is your post op going?

Hey guys! I'm from the Killeen/ Temple/ Waco area and I am so nervous you guys! I have surgery on 2/3 and this waiting game is KILLING me. Sooo nervous about anesthesia and surgery. I haven't had general anesthesia since I was 19 years old so I'm super scared. The only thing I've had is a local aneshetic and then I had an epidural when I gave birth (does that count?) lol. I don't know if I can contain the nerves. I just want to get it over

Hello All

I am sched for surgery 2/6 at Forest Park Medical with Dr. Kim... I am starting to feel a little anxious about the pre-op diet, I really don't know what I am going to eat(drink). I know Dr. Kim has some product at his office but I dont know if there are other options out there that are a little tastier...do i use Water or milk to mix my lil shakes...i have heard some folks don't even do the two week diet, as you can tell by my post, my brain is going a mile a minute, I know I must calm down... I know that is the right thing to do, but its now all become REAL!!! no longer waiting swinging my toes waiting for approval..lol lol

Hello Texan/DFW Sleevers! I have been researching getting sleeved for almost a year now, as I have gained and gained more weight. My insurance has an exclusion to bariatrics no matter what, so I am going Cash pay. Ive looked up several in the area that have great deals and look good - but there are so many its hard to narrow them down.

Anyone else do cash or is everyone covered by ins?

Glad to be here and cant wait to be on the losing side soon!

Misty

Heather,

I'm just joining the group and saw your post. Congratulations on your 1st week post op! I had my surgery June 11th and have lost quite a bit. I had my surgery at Forest Park Medical in Dallas. Dr. David Kim was my surgeon and he was great. Hope all is well with you! Take care, Cathy

I'm just now finding this forum. How are you doing? Do you attend a support group?

Hey Ya'll!! I'm having my surgery at Methodist Dallas on July 14th!! My doctor is Dr. Colleen Kennedy, who I LOVE! I start my preop 1 week liquid diet on the 7th and am NOT looking forward to that! I've been practicing though, with 4 Protein Shakes a day, a salad at lunch, and a sensible dinner. I've given up diet coke completely, and stick to tea with splenda, crystal light (cherry pomegranate is my favorite!) and of course TON'S of water!! I'm down 14 pounds!!! Hoping to drop more from the liquid diet, and then of course SLEEVE TIME!!! And even MORE WEIGHT LOSS! I'm completely stoked and ready to DO THIS!!!

I'd love to hear how you guys are doing getting ready for your surgery, or, if you have had it already, how things are going! Let's talk!!!!

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
