Need answers/reassurance

Recommended Posts

I posted this on OH as well but looking for comments/answers:

I know I am obsessive about reading posts and "getting prepared" and now that I have a surgery date - I am actually getting a bit freaked out. I did NOT think this would happen. I am ready for the major changes, the adjustments to my life and all of that but just now at this moment (as I am drinking my third glass of sauvignon blanc) I am getting just the teensy-est bit WIGGED OUT.

I have a six year old (I am 46) and I am curious if any of you wrote letters to your kids or loved ones before surgery? I honestly do not think anything is going to go wrong and have given it up to my "higher power" that I will get through the surgery without a hitch BUT am feeling conflicted with the choice of writing a note to my lovely daughter 'just in case.'

Any words from post-ops would be greatly appreciated.

Mahalo,

Lulu

Hi There,

If you weren't freaking out, I would think that there is something wrong with you. We all freaked out. After all, you are having surgery, and then afterwards, your relationship with food will forever be changed. THAT IS A GOOD THING. I am a little over 2 most post op, and I am so glad I had this done. If you wish, write the letter. Of course, you will tear it up when you get back home and know that you are doing fine, but for the time being, if that helps, do it. Good luck. By the way, I enjoyed a nice glass of wine today as well.

Congrats on your surgery date! The sleeve has been such an exciting journey...I love it!!! To answer your question yes i did write letters to my kids and husband. I had been writing down memories for them about how their dad and i met, how my pregnancy to each of them went, and memories of our family or silly little quotes they made and planned on making a journal of them for when they were older, but after i had a surgery date (which went rather quickly because i was self-pay) I finished writing those memories down, and finished with a "what you mean to me letter" to each of them and my husband ...it was very emotianal and heartwrenching for me to write these letters, but so glad i did...funny thing is i was not nervous or scared of the things that could have went wrong with surgery, but still felt it was something I had to do, I gave them to a friend of mine to distribute if need be, i picked them up 3 days later when i saw her when i went back to work. For me i am the type of person that likes to make sure I have all my bases covered, this just helped me feel like i had taken care of business..."just in case", now i have these done and can continue recording our lives together so i can finish up those journals for them :P

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
