All right, I am really dating myself here...but when I was younger, there weren't thongs, at least not for "real" people. There were rumors that fashion models wore them....I always wore bikini panties until I got fat and started wearing granny panties because the bikini ones looked gross on me or wouldn't stay up on the fat rolls. Now, I am wondering about what size I wear in panties. Has there been downsizing in panty sizes like in pants and dresses? And what does a thong feel like and how long do they take to get used to? I'm in my mid-fifties--am I too old to wear one?

Well I'm not one of the ladies here but....

As far as being too old, not unless you THINK you are. If you have the money to buy it, WEAR IT. As for getting used to it, I don't know. Ya got me on that one.

Here's my take on thongs...you can have 1" of material crawl up your rear or 5"...take your pick! lol. I used to wear them ALL the time before I gained all this fart noodling weight, and I can't wait to start wearing them again! They won't take too long to get used to at all.

When I was a kid - thongs were what they now call flip-flops - and I didn't like the feel of the material rubbing between my toes. I have never gotten past the idea of having material rubbing between other parts of my body. I have had younger female family members explain it is kind of like getting use to wearing a bra - soon you won't notice it.

If you like the look of yourself wearing a thong, and don't mind the way it feels - go for it!

I have and continue to wear thongs.....they are much more comfortable and tend to stay in place better than grannie panties :) And I'm sure in another couple of weeks I really should buy some smaller sizes :)

Well unless you don't mind the feel of a string between the cheeks then good. . .I personally dont like that feeling so I don't wear those. Also, working in a health clinic, I've seen alot of problems caused by these thongs. . especially BV (bacterial vaginosis) soooo having said that. . .

If you like it... wear it. :D I like the bikinis. I am a teacher and most of the girls wear these with hip huggers. You know what is coming next. I can never get the boys behind them to pay attention in class.

Really, it doesn't matter when you wear a thong because if worn appropriately, no one knows you have them on. People only know you're wearing a thong when you have ill-fitting pants on, or wear too low of a rise. People familiar with things might be able to guess you're wearing one if you have on white linen pants, or something semi sheer, or really tight & stretchy pants with absolutely no VPL...

But it's kind of like asking when it's appropriate to wear a lace bra, versus a knit bra. Ideally, everyone but you & your most intimate never know the difference, so there isn't really a single point at which it becomes appropriate or inappropriate. Make sense? The concept is much cleaer in my brain, than exiting my mouth...or fingertips...

U are Never too old to avoid the VPL (visible panty line)! Just purchase ones that are seamless. I like the ones at target the xhillration brand or however it is spelled, they usually have them in individual bins along with selection of bikini and boy short type THEY ARE SUPER COMFY. Victoria secrets has some seemless ones also. Usually I just wear them with anything that might show a panty line, like my dress pants etc. With my denim I usually just wear bikini style.

I'm the same as you: bikini when young and thin and then hi-rise when fat because I couldn't handle the fat roll over the bikinis. Now I'm wearing "hipsters" that are a nice compromise. As for thongs-help yourself, other people-I couldn't do it.

LOL! In my day tongs were flip flops too! I have never tried them they just look uncomfortable as hell to me. There doesn't appear to be much vanity sizing in panties. Personally I rather the boy shorts they help hold in and hide the loose tummy skin;) I had trouble figuring what size I wore its not like you can try them on to see the fit (G) Right now I am between a 5 and 6 story of my life I am always between sizes.

I agree with what all the others I have said. I just want to add that when purchasing thongs, pay attention to the material, etc. How the thong is made will directly relate to whether you enjoy wearing them and/or can get used to them. I am also a fan of the Target brand. I like not having a visible panty line and I love how they make make me feel- just a lil' bit sexy. :)

To me a thong is just something to wear when you're wearing a tight skirt or tight pants, where you don't want any panty lines to show. I never got around to wearing them for fun because I never found them comfortable.

The only rule I'd say is...never with a short skirt or low cut jeans.

As for sizes I say buy single panties (not packs) and buy in two different sizes until you find which one fits best. A lot of places are now into just S/M/L/XL sizes for panties but those packs that you might buy at Target still have number sizes. I still don't really have a clue what my number size is but can proudly say I can wear a M panty!!!

Now for thongs, you will get used to them! I SWORE by the V-String back in the day (from Victoria Secrets) because it was the least amount of material in the back. I still perfer to find ones with a small amount of material but can wear just about any! I still have full butt coverage panties, hipsters, boy shorts, you name it I have it! I really depends on my outfit and my MOOD as to what I wear!

Thongs are the skinnest, but you can also buy T-backs which are a little wider at the top and more comfortable IMO. I wear T-backs now on occasion and have no problem.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
