List of foods that you can eat when fully healed

Recommended Posts

I am eating salads no problem at all. Had one today and yesterday. Just make sure that isn't all you eat, need that Protein first. My lunch today was a half of a tuna sandwich on toast and a small salad with balsamic dressing.

With having my surgery in May, I came to a turning point a couple weeks ago and really can eat just about anything at this point in moderation. I do occasionally have some issues with eggs and I won't eat most bread type items which I shouldn't be eating anyway.

I don't drink carbonated beverages of any kind. I tried a sip of my husbands's diet coke the other day and I didn't miss the taste at all so I am not going to bother with it.

Hi all!

Waiting for sleeve approval. I wanted to know what foods can you eat once you are advanced to soilds? From what I see, it seems so limited. Thanks

Hi my name is Jessi: Have you had your sleeve yet? Once you are completely healed you can eat anything you wish but in extremely small portions. The best thing though is to limit your carbs, mainly bread etc. Things like that tend to be very very heavy in your sleeved stomach.

I am two months out and still struggle with some foods. I try what I want and if I have trouble I will try it again later. Spicy foods which I loved before are very hard for me. My husband loves to cook and makes everything spicy. That has not been good for me and he doesn't seem to understand I just can't tolerate spice like I used to. Another problem is unconscious eating which happens when I sit down to eat but I am working or doing something else at the same time. Undoubtedly I could control some of my food intolerance if I just slowed down and took smaller bites. When I am focused while I am eating I always try to under-eat if possible. I know I can eat again later if I am hungry but if I over-eat I am stuck feeling miserable until it eventually comes up. Yuck.

Experienced the "unconscious" eating yesterday and I'm almost 6 months post op. You are SOOOO right about PRE-planning portions. Spicy foods gave me ALLOT of trouble initially too. Eventually found, I had gallstones and have had gallbladder removed. You are also correct when you say they don't seem to understand, My fiancé didn't either. He tries, but usually my "meals" are separate small tidbits of this and that while friends and family sit with the full plates that include Pasta, rice, bread and everything else. BUT... I'm down 100 pounds today, am SOOO much healthier and that makes it worth it!

My surgeon told me I can eat anything I want, I am 2 1/2 months Post op. They do not want me to have any sugar and the told me that rice, bread and Pasta will expand in my stomach after eating it. I try to eat Protein and then a little carbs, little vegetables. I am always hungry though. :( to the hungry monster in my stomach......Is anyone else really hungry after the sleeve?

Dorrie! I've looked all over this site for you! LOL I saw (in an email push) that you were waiting 10 minutes between bites. That's WAY too long. You should only wait about a minute between bites. You need to give your tummy long enough to tell you if it's full before you take another bite.

Also, I think your hungry monster might be appeased when you actually start putting a bit of food into your tummy and no letting it fully digest before you take another bite! :) Are you taking an acid reducer? Prilosec, Nexium, Tums, even? If not, you might find that taking one reduces the hungry monster to a hungry imp, or even eliminates him completely.

I'm truly not stalking you, but wanted to say something about that as soon as I saw it! :)

Good luck!!

What are "sliders"??

I've heard this here and there too, I'm curious too what a slider is.

A slider is any food that goes in and out of your tummy quickly. Ice cream, Cookies, cake, Cheetos (for me). Dense Protein and veggies are so much better for our sleeves and they stick around longer to help us feel satisfied.

Lissa, I hope this isn't a dumb question but could you give me some examples of dense Proteins? I eat alot of chicken but want to broaden my menu. I also LOVE bacon, do you think that is a good source of Protein or too fatty? I wouldn't mind turkey bacon.

peacequeen, there are no dumb questions. :) Dense Proteins are anything that fills your sleeve well. I eat chicken (cluck), pork chops, steak, hamburger, ham, and a lot of Beans. For me, all of those fill me up quickly. Basically, any meat that requires you to chew well is dense Protein. I do eat bacon, both kinds (turkey and pork) and I find that it fills me up fairly quickly. Also, I eat sausage with my eggs quite often. 1 egg and a sausage patty usually fill me up completely, although there are some days that it takes two eggs.< /p>

Hope that helps to answer your question. Ask away. :)

LOL, Peacequeen! I'm not an encyclopedia, but I have a great capacity for storing (sometimes useless) information and then recalling it later. Now, if you ask me to recognize a name without a face (or vice versa) I'm totally lost these days!

Hi, not sure if someone will read my question here so I may post the same question as a separate topic but I see from reading all the replies here that a person w/the sleeve can eat a good variety of foods. My question is, can I eat all the foods together? For example, normally if I eat meat, it's meat, veggies like English peas and/or green Beans or corn and maybe some sweet potato if I have it. I realize the major reduction in the amount of what I can eat w/the sleeve, but have some confusion on that...is it one food item per meal, for instance, do I only get to eat a small piece of meat...nothing else...at, say lunch, then for dinner, small amt of veggies? Or can I eat the meat & veggies together? What about sweet potato for an added measure? I'm trying to avoid white potatoes due to the starch but am learning to like the sweet potato (I actually cannot stand them, lol but I'll eat them b/c they're good for me).

I guess my question is, do I get a 'real' meal or is it one tiny piece of meat and that's it for my meal for a few hours then I can eat a spoonful of veggies for my next meal? Kinda confused on the quantity of the meal. If anyone can give me some insight, it'd be much appreciated. Sorry if my question is confusing.

Hi Slowkat. You can eat a variety of foods at a meal, just like before but in smaller portion sizes. But always make sure you eat your Protein first (2-3oz) and then veggies, and yes, they can be mixed together. No problems with mixing, just way smaller portion sizes than before, like a couple bites of this, a bite of that, etc. This was a great question to ask. :)

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
