Wow! That is soon, are you going alone? How long do you have to stay there before you can travel? I am freaking out, which is strange because I had a failed lapband three years ago.

Your failures can become your greatest triumpets and that is something that I am learning to this day. Its natural to be freaked out about things like this. Now, what's not natural is to not be freaked out or stressed and I think I am not natural. Even though its only 2 days away I have butterflies, jitters nor am I scared. I keep waiting for that moment when it will hit me that this is happening and I'm going. My luck it will hit me when I'm laying on the table for surgery, Lol! So, don't freak out there are plenty of other's who had the lapband and it just didn't work for them. Look to this group for your support in that area. I believe 1 or 2 lady's on here had the same issue. Like the song by Donald Lawrence says "The best is yet to come!" so don't freak out. I had to get out the way....sorry! :D

Hopefully, we can get a meet up group going in Houston if there isn't already one after this is all said and done. What side of town in Houston do live?

My sister and daughter will be traveling with me. I will be staying 4-5 days total in TJ, 2 days in the hospital and 2-3 days post op in the hotel with visits by the doctor and his staff.

Hey y'all. New to the site. 34 y/o from Myrtle Beach, SC. Will be having my surgery in Columbia with Dr. Hughes at Lexington Medical Center. I haven't received my surgery date yet as I am still fulfilling insurance requirements. I have done everything except complete my nutrition classes and finish my psych eval. I think it's great to have a board dedicated to our people. Let's keep it going!!! Can anyone comment on Hair loss and sagging skin? Those are my two biggest concerns.

I showered on day three after surgery. Baths are not recommended until incisions are healed so as not to infect the incisions

Hello all. I'm from Dover Delaware and I am pre-op at this point. I'm glad I found African American Sleevers. I am in the process of pre-op clearances which will be completed on January 22nd. I have a lap band still implanted from 2007. I'll be glad to have it out, but I must say I'm nervous about the revision to VSG. I'll be checking out the veterans everyday for advise and encouragement along with questions that are swimming around in my head.

Thank you Samantha.

My surgery went much better than I expected! I was up and walking the same day. I did a two night stay, then was released to go home. I was fortunate to not have any nausea or vomiting. I actually went back to work a week post op. I have a sit down job. I have absolutely no regrets. The only thing that I am tired of is the Protein Drinks. Ugh! I have to find a better way of getting it in. I cant stand the taste or smell anymore. Yuck!

Hi Everyone. I was on line checking out other sleevers' experiences before and after VSG and came across your site! I am abt to embark on my journey and will be having my surgery on December 11th! I'm excited about the prospects ahead; I feel that All doors have been opened for me by Father God and I will be skipping (well, not quite "skipping" yet (lol!) through the o.r. doors. And - the cream on top is that I have found this group and will look forward to sharing it with you all!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
