i am 4 days out from surgery, the procedure hit me like a ton of bricks, I had a lot of pain and just feeling rotten. No real nausea just very burpy when I drink, still on the clear liquid phase. When I got home and weighed I had gained 15 pounds of Water weight, (its certainly not from calories}. I feel somewhat like a bloated whale! Has anyone else experienced this lovely event? How long did it take to loose back down to the pre surgical wt? This is depressing! Any input greatly appreciated.

Yes, lovely Water weight. I gained after surgery but was down all the water weight plus 11.5 lbs by 8 days out. However, I am dealing with it again this week. I called nutritionist on Friday because I had actually gained a pound this week (week 2-3). She assured my it was just Fluid retention and I had dropped over 15lbs in the first two weeks, my body was just catching up.

Good luck.

I gained 14 lbs. Water weight in the hospital. I was back to my pre-surgery weight about 8 days out. Now, 11 days out I am down 6 lbs.

I only had two incidents with nausea, both lasted less than a minute and I didn't throw up. However, my stomach has had loud rumbles, cramping, and diarrhea since about 2 days out. The last few days, within 1/2 hr of eating, I get crampy gas and then go to the restroom. Once I poop, it's all good again for a few hours. I know food doesn't go through our systems that fast, so I'm not sure what's up. I've found I feel better with the powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury Protein powder than the Gold Standard Protein Powder. I didn't have a problem with the Gold Standard before surgery. Or it might be the Lactaid milk I mix the Gold Standard with.

Many people report having gas, cramping, and diarrhea that clears up in about 2 weeks, so maybe that's the magic number. I hope so!!

Yeah, 17.5 lbs gained with surgery, about 5 days out, got to surgury weight, now 10 under. I still feel fatter now than I did before going in, belly still a bit puffy, and can't wear my jeans (which were totally loose and falling off before) Thank goodness I picked up a few summer dresses or I would be running around in robes!

I babied myself with drinking that first week, and realized a few days ago, I can actually swallow about 1/2 an oz at a time now. belching is getting father apart, and if I feel like I have a "clog" or belch coming, I just stand up and walk around to get everything moving.

Good luck!!

Aside from the IV Water weight, which is different thing and will definitely leave within a few days, the other gains during stalls are so well explained in this article, which I believe really explains you are still losing even while stalled. I keep posting it in different threads because I think it is so great- it was originally posted in the Stall Busters thread I think.

Yes, I gained Water weight after surgery too - nurse told me that for every bag of IV fluids they put into you, you will gain about 3 pounds per bag - I had 4 IV bags, so I gained about 12 pounds, but lost it within the first week or so - I also gained some weight last week and was concerned, but the DR said that it was because I was retaining water, to make sure I take in more water and I would be ok.

Dont worry, its normal stuff, you will even out soon

Isn;t it interesting ? It explains so much!

Tonight I was reading about ketosis- and if you do that, and then connect it to this article then so much makes sense about why we count carbs, why we need the Water, why the high Protein. It's a lot to do with the glycogen! It gave me a lot of strength to do what is required!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
